<<Sync sound for 3d Studio>> Bill, I am involved in doing sound tracks for other people's animations, and I fully support your concept of a comprehensive interactive sound interface. In the short run, how hard would it be to send a dos command to the outside world ( using the DOS "play" command utility supplied with all sound blaster cards….play song.wav) when you play a Keyframer preview flic? This alone would save me many hours of getting in and out of 3DS. Since the sound blaster reads C code, how hard is it to output a C command string from 3DS while the program is running? I don't know C, but I am studying it. Regards, Sanford

Thanks. I believe the audio graphing thread was started by ARA G., but as I said, the idea's not new to either of us. It's an integral part of animation with audio tracks, and has been implemented in CG app's before. I feel that *_ALL_* animatable parameters including the reference audio tracks, should be displayable & controllable as the core of any animation system. It's puzzling to me that I don't own any PC computer audio hardware / software, as I played music for a living for nearly 15 years. That early, pre-PC involvement & fascination with electronic gadgetry led me into electronics engineering, which led to computers, to video production, and ultimately to computer graphics. I'm telling you all of this because I know nothing about PC audio devices or programming specifically… So I can't honestly answer your questions. But, having worked with some of this stuff on other platforms, it seems do-able on PC's today to me. Rather than nothing at all, I'd rather have the entire interface that I described without directly communicating with the audio hardware, but including the audio communications/processing would be great if it is possible with PC's today, and somebody's willing to develop it. In my description, the waveform processing & interpretation as well as the real-time syncing with digital audio for previewing – was optional hooks for future development, or "if possible". The data/display for those reference tracks though, is very important to my description – even if I have to break down the audio manually. BILL
