#Video out too orange!

OK – I'm sort of a 'newbee', but I've done everything the books tell me to do in order to get color-correct output, etc, etc.: the Gamma correction has been applied to two different monitors and I have output to video tape which show a distinctly orange cast to the output – for example the SUNSET90.JPG file included with 3DS v 3.0 (patched and using the latest Vibrant drivers) on my monitors appears to be a mostly cloudy scene, not a lot of 'sundown' tones in the picture, but on VCR (or just looking at it in the TV monitor) it appears to have a whole lotta red (or really orange) in it than it does on the SVGA display. (FWIW, 640x480x256 colors here we're talking about, but other resolutions and color depths give exactly (well very similar) results. I've dived into the manuals to see if something is still not adjusted properly, and taken a few intuitive steps as well from the 3DS.SET file examples, but still get the same result(s). Colors on the monitors which are blue, green and yellow (or combinations thereof) all appear exactly the same hue on the output, but the progress bar, for example, looks to be 'brick red' on the SVGA display, but 'neon' red on the tape or TV monitor. What's going on here?

Mike, It sounds like what you're describing is "normal" differences between a RGB signal & monitor, and NTSC signal & monitor. You did not say what you're using to get the signal converted to NTSC….there may be some misadjustment there. Also, many NTSC monitors use a very "warm" color temperature crt. You just have to compensate when designing materials and use gamma adjustments & color correction…. Or encoder controls if you have them. BILL
