I've used Authorware Pro for Windows with flic files without any problems, in fact they seem to work better, and give better results than AVI or Quicktime files. Unfortunately, although your windows display system will support hi/true color, the flic format is limited to 256 colors. I was running APW in 24bit color on an ATI card, and, while my application used Windows full screen, the flics I used were less than full screen. I keyed the flics over a background as animated buttons & bullets. APW appears to run great in true color, no need to concern yourself with palettes at all, just don't run your file on a 256 color system<g>. m.

Michael, >> just don't run your file on a 256 color system<g>. We're just finishing up on a CD ROM project here, using AuthorWare Pro, AVI and flic files, and also MPEG files with the ReelMagic board. Because of the target customers, it's all designed to run on 256 color systems; we *really* know the problems with 256 colors, and have fairly successfully defined a pallette for the flic files, etc., that appears to work most of the time, but, boy, what a *BEAR* getting to an acceptable end result! Hopefully, in a year or two, 24 bit color will be the Windows standard, not the general 256 colors, (and don't even *mention* 16 colors….). <g> John

Thanks for your reply, Michael. I am using an Orchid Prodesigner IIs (tseng4000 chipset) in my PC, and in 32k colour modes (640×480 or 800×600) Authorware is still giving me a general protection fault :-< I have read recently that Windows supports 8bit and 24bit but not 16bit colour, I wonder whether that is the problem that I am facing? I think I'll have to try and dig around a bit to find out. I have a test machine with an ATI Mach32, I'll run some tests up on that and see what I can make it do! Thanks again, Neville
