Wolf, Thanks for the information. I don't have the A2091 yet. Any chance CBM has upgraded to the version of the WD chip to the -08 version in later production runs? 73, Kelly

I don't think so… the current -04 PROTO SCSI chip is known by Kickstart and Randell spend lot's of time to put in work-arrounds into the latest device versions. In general that chip works without any problems and if you have the ability to change kickstarts, I would highly recommend using different KS versions in case you do have a problem. Sometimes a different KS version (or ROM version in case of the 2091) does miracles… I only now of 3 different cases not working at all and after switching to an AMD or WD -08 everything was fixed. Wolf, Right now, I don't even know if it is still possible to buy an A2091. May just have to go for a GVP controller, such as the 4008. Course, I'll have to kiss DMA goodbye, since I don't believe GVP uses it. There aren't a heck of a lot of choices left for A2000 SCSI interface cards left, as far as I can tell. 73, Kelly

you might try the IVS TrumpCardPro – still available for the A2000 and it has always been a GREAT SCSI interface. NOT DMA, but VERY FAST with a fast drive and fast Amiga.

Pardon me for jumping in, but I'm trying to connect a MO to my A4000. I haven't had any luck yet. I have a Pinnacle Micro Tahoe 128 meg. MO drive. HD Tools sees it, but won't write to it. My GVP SCSI card doesn't see it at all. I remember seeing a note somewhere on here that mentioned a utility that would make these things writable on the Amiga. Have you, or someone you know, been able to connect any MO drive to an Amiga? Regards, Jonathan

Jonathan, I can't be of any help to you on this manner – have no A4k, and don't have an MO drive yet. Still haven't decided on what controller I want to use in my A2k5, since the A2090A board I am using doesn't like removeable media. 73, Kelly

Kelly, I've been using GVP SCSI boards in both 2000's and 4000's for a long time now and I can say that they work very well with SyQuest drives. In fact I have several machines running a hard drive, CD-ROM, SyQuest, and HP scanner, all using the GVP board with no problem. Jonathan

I'd check out the TrumpCardPro. It works fine in the A4000 and IVS always has had decent removable media support. I ran a Maxoptix Tahiti on one for a while.

Did you have to do anything unusual with the Tahiti to get it to run? What kind of SCSI board did you use? Regards, Jonathan

Nothing unusual about using the Tahiti except it required patience. It is HUGE and, relatively speaking compared to a normal hard drive, fairly slow. Formatting a cart took nearly forever. Worked fine with my TrumpCardPro, still probably the best all-around SCSI board out there. Not the fastest, not the newest, but very very solid.

It might be fast if you just have a single task running… but on a multitasking computer these non-DMA controller slow down the whole machine while pulling the data… so I can back-up Kelly: a good and working DMA controller is what you should look for and that has allways been hard to find… finding a good and reasonable fast non-DMA controllers is no problem… — Wolf Faust, Am Dorfgarten 10, 60435 Frankfurt, Germany —
