Bones and motion blur

I have found a solution to the problem of not being able to use Bones Pro with motion blur! Here is how to do it: 1. Set up your animation, including all your bones, the way you like it. Do all of your bones settings for all boned objects. 2. Decide how many time slices you want to use for scene motion blur. For example, let's use a value of 5. Multiply this by the current number of frames you have in your animation. For instance, 60. (5×60=300) 3. Scale your animation using the "Scale Segment" command in the keyframer to the new amount. (300) 4. Launch Bones.kpx. Load each and save boned object. Exit. 5. Scale the animaion back to the original number of frames. Do NOT go back into Bones.kxp! 6. Set up your video post rendering with the motion blur settings on the KF Scene entry set to the pre-determined value (from line 2). 7. Render and enjoy! Notes: Keep in mind I have only done MINIMAL testing on this technique (just discovered it last night). -This will only work with scene motion blur, object motion blur will not work. -If you render your scene without using Video Post, the movement of your boned objects will be incorrect. You will have to Re-save you bones data to render directly from the Keyframer. -I have not tested with field rendering on (will test tonight). I have uploaded an image named TREXBLUR.JPG to the IPAS Library section which shows the results of this tecnique. Keep in mind the mesh and maps used are from an unfinished animaition and still need a lot of work. If your have any questions or comments, feel free to contact us. Mitch, Yes, motion blur is a cool thing! <g> I discovered that Bones Pro blur "feature" a while ago and explained it here (though not as well as you). It is also a problem when trying to use scene motion blur when you have animated maps in your materials! When doing scene Motion Blur, 3DS makes a call to anything external at the "subframe" value. (Frame 0 will call frames 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. of any AXP, image sequence, or flic.) At the time, I wondered if the same could be done with particle systems. It can! But they are much harder to (time) "scale" for that purpose. It does give some interesting effects though. – Ron
