Hi to all! One of our developer has find out a very very strange behavor of 3DS. Load your Birdwalk.3DS file, render it (keep the texture of the body in your mind) and then aquire the mapping coords from the body object. Then re-apply the mapping coords to the body and render the image again… As you might see the texture is now rotated. But why????????? If you get the mapping coords from an object and then assing the same mapping coords to the same object you should have the same texture orientation than before. But that isn`t so. Any ideas?? Michael

Check out the note marked "Important" on page 7-145. It's been a long time since I made that bird — and I'm not even sure we even had the Acquire function at the time. At any rate, I'm positive that the bird has been move around in 3D space since its original mapping coordinates were applied. No way you'd be able to acquire them at their original location. – Jack

Thank you very much Jack. I thought it was something like that but I was really not sure… Michael

The mapping coords location does not translate w/ the object. Okay, I didn't say that very well. For example, in center of the top viewport, make a cube. Set up some type of mapping coord for it, and apply. Now move the mapping icon to the lower left corner of the viewport (but don't reapply it — we're just moving it so that you can see it go back). Now, move the cube to upper right corner. Now, use Surface/Mapping/Acquire. You'll see that the mapping icon is back near the center of the viewport, where the cube originally was. So, if the bird-body was moved after the mapping coords were applied, and you re-acquire and apply them, you'd get a different effect, as you've seen. Dave

Thanks Dave. It`s very important to know for my next mapping coords seesion… <g>. Michael

<<mapping coords>> 3DS aquires the mapping coordinates in the exact orientation they were in when applied to the object. If you rotate or move the object, acquire will still bring back the original location. – Dave

Thanks David. It`s a little bit like absolute right (mapping coords) and relative right (mapping coords) <bg>. Michael

Any ideas?? Michael, This is not exactly how it works. When you ACQUIRE mapping coordinates from an object you will get the mappin icon _as it was when the mapping was applied_. The mapping icon does not move, scale, or rotate with the moving, scaling and rotating of the object. Ralph

Thanks Ralph. BTW: Are you german? Your name sounds like a german name (but my name is a french name and I`m a german, little bit confusing). Michael
