#3d Max/Rendering Engine
7 messages in this thread
Did Autodesk at Siggraph mention anything about the rendering engine that would
be shipped with THE MAX. The press release mentions that the rendering engine
would be open architecture but that was about it. I assume that all the HDI
stuff is just for previewing and not for actual rendering (is this right?).
Is raytracing going to be included? In the gif of the Material Editor their
did not seem to be any options for any index of refraction or other raytracing
type parameters. Is this a sign that the render engine will still be ZBuffer
type engine with no built in raytracing capabilities?

Peter,
One thing that we all need to remember: 3DS MAX is *not finished.* What was
shown at SIGGRAPH was a pre-beta release, and Jack and Gary emphasized that
more features will be added to it (and they, and Autodesk, don't want to
confirm or deny all of those, for obvious competitive reasons). So, we probably
shouldn't be trying to read too much (or too little) into the screen shots that
Gary uploaded.

Well put, Jon.

Hi Peter,
<< plug-in rendering..?>>
The plug in technology for MAX will support the common wishlist of plug-in
renderers. As far as the features of the renderer that will ship with the
product, they were not announced.
