#Micropolis A/V HDs
9 messages in this thread
Chuck,
As you might remember, my dealer sold me a Micropolis A/V Gold 9 gig HD,
telling me it was a Newtek approved drive.
Messages from you (#117086) state that Newtek NEVER had the A/V drives on their
approved list and that my dealer was in error.
It seems to me, if your information is correct, that my dealer should take the
A/V drive back and change it for a non-A/V model if he was in error about the
Newtek approved drives. Or will future revs of Flyer make all this unecessary,
fixing problems with the A/V models?
Sam,
In my conversations with Micropolis regarding problems with the 1991 A/V
firmware (FLyer use only) they indicated that they would be working on some
sort of fix. It would make sense that they would be willing to upgrade the
firmware on your unit as a warranty repair (rather than a straight exchange for
a non-A/V model) I would check with Microplis directly as opposed to going thru
Newtek. In this particular instance, I don't think Newtek should be held
responsible for what your dealer represented. I am assuning that your dealer
has already refused to do an exchange otherwise you would not be posting your
message to Chuck.

Frank,
I haven't confronted my dealer with the A/V non A/V exchange yet; I wanted to
find out all the facts first.
I will give a call to Micropolis for more info. I'm certainly not holding
Newtek responsible if it's -true- that their approved drives -never- included
the A/V models.
Anyway, thanks for your interest…
Frank,
Do -you- have a Micropolis 9 gig A/V drive also? If so, let me know what your
plans are…
Sam,
I have a NON-AV Microp 1991, but I would advise you that they are selling for a
bit less than the 1991 AV's. You ougta get some cash back too!
Greg
Our engineers have been communicating with Micropolis's engineers, but I have
no way to know what results that will produce. Seagate very actively pursued
issues, and the results are the upcoming firmware change. Micropolis has not
been as active.
Chuck.
Maybe you could supply a name and phone number at Micropolis so that end users
could hopefully light a fire under them to expedite their work on getting a
fix.
I know that with all the early confusion over which '9' gig drives worked best
with the flyer there are a number of micropolis users out there feeling that
they've got no place to turn for a solution.
I called customer service at Micropolis and the tech I spoke to had barely
heard of Newtek or thwe Flyer. It would be good to know that someone at
Micropolis was addressing our problems and questions…
I will see if I can come up with a number for Micropolis customer service, and
get back to you.
Chuck.
