#Toaster 3.1 Upgrade!

Help,
About 3 months ago, I purchased a 3.0 Toaster Upgrade from a gentleman named
Mike Smith. The package I recieved contained no registration card. Now with
the 3.1 upgrade coming out, I'm on the short end of the stick here with no
upgrade path. I did register my 2.0 version though. I attempted to send
E-Mail to Mike Smith but the message was rejected with the note "RECEIVER NOT
FOUND. COULD NOT DELIVER MESSAGE" from CIS. Apparently his account is closed
here. I'm sure that the 3.0 package I got from him is Legitimate since the
Floppies were all still shrinkwrapped and could not have been installed prior
to my reception. I called NewTek and was told they could do nothing. If anyone
has a suggestion here, I'd sure appreciate it. What would be the ethical
dilema of requesting for another user to send/sell a copy of their 3.1 upgrade?
After all, it's supplied at no charge to legitimate owners of the 3.0 software
of which I'm one? Thoughts?

Getting the software from a friend would be illegal (although, to be
honest, if I were in your situation I probably wouldn't hesitate) and
doing so would still leave you as an unregistered version, so you really
should persue other avenues. How about starting by leaving a message in
the AmigVendor Forum to Newtek asking for their help… offer to send in
the original disks and documentation as proof that you do indeed own the
stuff?

The 3.0 upgrade for old Toaster owners doesn't come with a registration
card… at least the several upgrades I purchased didn't (direct from
NewTek).

Well, yes and no… I got it from a local dealer. But, I'm waiting for
NewTek to deliver the goods to my door. My confidence in NewTek is not
quite what it used to be, so I'm not holding my breath (considering most
of the things in the upgrade should have been in the 3.0 release
anyways).

Even though I didn't get a registration card with my 3.0 upgrade for the 2000
either,
Newtek just sent it to me. I was the original purchaser. Chances are that this
guy received one, unless he moved with no forwarding address. Maybe he'll send
it to you (or maybe "offer" it to you). I don't think they will, but you could
call CIS and ask them for his info. Maybe they would forward a letter to him
(so they wouldn't directly give you his stats). Just some thoughts. Brian
For the Record
Mike Smith HAS called me informing me that the 3.1 upgrade will soon
be arriving in my mail from him. The 3.0 software which I purchased
did NOT include a registration card. AND therefore, NewTek is an
even more mystical company than we all suspected since even though
they don't know who the 3.0 owners are…they consult their magical
Screamer Farm to calculate the recipients of the 3.1 upgrade based on
U.S. Census data and Seismographic charts of abberant Toaster Usage
in various geographical areas.

As I posted earlier, NewTek didn't include registration cards with
the T2000 3.0 upgrades because they sold them direct to the end user
which automatically let them know who had it in the first place.
So… the guy who you bought the upgrade from will be recieving/has
recieved the 3.1 upgrades (like I did today) via US Mail.

Not ALL 3.0 Upgrades were sold direct to the end user. I know that several
dealers at W.O.C. Pasedena had stacks of 3.0 upgrades for sale. How would
NewTek know who bought them? It seems like NewTek is encouraging direct sales
only by cutting off the upgrade path for those who purchased their product from
a second part vendor.
