Lydell Just for the record, I spend somewhere between $5000-6000 every 2 to 3 years for a new machine to run new software, etc. Nothing has changed since 1984 as far as the cost of keeping up with technology in my business and it doesn't look like 3DS MAX will break that cycle. I'm a small, one person shop and not a mega-site, like Pyros<G> Keep the faith. -Ted Boardman

Ted, I hope I didn't sound "whiney" or anything, but I was just trying to speak up for what I thought was the silent majority. Perhaps I am mistaken and I am one of the only ones watching $$$. >>>I spend somewhere between $5000-6000 every 2 to 3 years for a new machine to run new software<< Just for the record, I have only been in computer animation a little over 3 years, and I would hazard a guess I have spent well over $10-15+++thousand on software and hardware (original 3DS2 was almost $3000)…I was thinking that any day now, I can "catch up. (European viewers please cover your eyes and ignore these posts. And unleaded is only $1.33 per U.S. gallon here too!!!!) Anyway, thanks for the info. I will give you an Email. Lydell

Lydell No, I didn't see your message as being whiney, I just wanted to note that, IMO, there hasn't been any increase in the price of "keeping up with technology". I was only quoting hardware prices, as well, but the upgrade prices for software hasn't gotten much more expensive. It does seem, however, that things are quite consistent and that constant cash outlay is a part of the business and must be factored in. It is possible to still make money with 3DSr2 on a 386, but I'm not sure how cost effective it is. Everyone shares your concerns, I'm sure.<No comments about Pyros<g>> Good luck -Ted Boardman !^NavFont01F0007MGHHHEAF84E
