Ernie, I only have 4 books/references in the list so far: "Film directing Shot by Shot, visualizing from concept to screen" by Steven D. Katz "the filmmakers handbook" by Edward Pincus & Steven Ascher. "Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life" by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. "3-D Character Animation by Computer" notes for course #5, 1987 SIGGRAPH. John Lassiter I was looking for a few more before I upload to the libraries.

Martin, You mentioned tradition animation. How about "Animation from Script to Screen" by Shamus Culhane. St. Martin's Press. Culhane worked on a lot of well known animated films and cartoon. He did the dwarfs in _Snow White_. JDH

Martin, Ok, here's some of my favorites… 1. Another vote for "Animation from Script to Screen". 2. "Cartoon Animation" by Preston Blair, Walter Foster pub. A reference for basic animation techniques. 3. "The Animator's Workbook" by Tony White, Watson Guptill pub. Similar to "Cartoon Animation". 4. "The Human Figure in Motion" and "Animals in Motion" by Eadweard Muybridge, Dover pub. High speed photographs for character animation reference. 5. "Color Drawing" by Micheal Doyle, Van Nostrand Rienhold pub. Presents architectural rendering techniques with colored pencil and marker. I found much of the information about mood, composition, color theory, and materials delineation applicable to 3DS work. 6. "Rendering with Markers" by Ronald Kemnitzer, Watson Guptill pub. Similar to "Color Drawing" but focusing on industrial design. Steven

There's a book that I'm still working my way through, "Sight, Sound, Motion: Applied Media Aethetics", by Herbert Zettl. It's pretty heavy, but, presents visual story telling concepts in a unique and , I think, profound way. Definely worth a browse at you local well-stocked bookstore. Those who need a good reference text for video might look at, "Today's Video", Peter Utz. While books like this are out-of-date before they even hit the bookshelves, this one does a great job presenting the basics and more. It helped me get my home video bay setup. BP

It would be cool if we had a Library Section Entry maintained for our list of book titles, eh? BP
