hello i am unable to boot my amiga 2000 , it requests workbench disk but after
loading wb disk it reads a while and gives the messege : fast file not
validated, in a requester that has retry or cancel, mouse won't respond to
either .Is there any way to get around this problem any help would be welcome ,
are there any service centers in N.C.? lost in space.

Do you have a hard drive? Does it usually boot from the hard drive? Sounds as
though you have a hard drive that is not being recognized by the system. There
are things that can be done but we need to know more about your system. What
drives do you have? What controller cards and boards?

hello betty I have an amiga 2000 running amiga dos 1.2, i have two other floppy
drives . the df0: drive has the workbench disc but the fast file hd will not
validate
betty my amiga has a SCSI CONTROLLER CARD and a bridge board witha IBM 5 1/2
drive also df0: , and dH1: drives

If the drive will not validate, it is possible that you have turned off your
machine while the drive was still writing, and thus did not get your Block
Availability Map updated. Have you tried letting the drive just run until it
stops? Sometimes it takes a VERY long time for it to validate when something
has gone wrong and it must search for the sectors that belong with various
files.
There are other things you can use on the drive – Quarterback Tools, AmiBack
tools – or DiskSalv. There is a shareware version in the Disk Utilities
Library of AmigaUser forum, or you can purchase the commercial version. I've
had awfully good luck with DiskSalv.

Very good suggestion Betty! It' funny I haven't seen this posted more
frequently. I've had numerous instances over the years with my 040 accelerator
crashing a program while it's writing to disk and getting the not validated
message upon reboot. The first time it happened I went through a very big
hassle of trying to salvage it with various programs. Since then, I've learned
to just let it spin for a long time.

I usually work on the idea that the simpler the solution, the better – and
letting the disk go until it has time to validate is certainly the least likely
method if you want to save the data. If it simply will not work, even after a
few hours of effort, then more stringent methods may be required, but it works
so often that it is certainly the best to try first.

I have a little piece of irony to share with you. As I was posting the reply to
your excellent suggestion, I hit offline now in AP and got a system crash while
AP was writing to the hard drive. Upon restarting my computer, I got all kinds
of system error messages. Had to restart it four times before I finally got the
volume unvalidated message. I just let it spin and everything straightened out.
My uneasiness with the whole situation was somewhat tempered by the good laugh
I was getting about the coincidence.
