#Quantum Failings

I thought about the possibility of a PARITY problem, but the only jumps which
could be set on or off are the 3 scsi id jumps, the rest are soldered to the
drives board.
I've tried the drive terminated and Unterminated, even when it was the only
drive available..
I've recently tried testingthe drive by switching on the power but not the
controller or computer, again the drive span into action, shifted its head(s)
about and then stopped spinning. Me thinks this hd is dead!
But, as the wise old owl does, i'll listen to, and try any ideas which come my
way..
( aha! theres the soldering iron and sucker )

PMFJi, I just had my Quantum 525 mb SCSI 2 go down under a shower of read/write
errors! Happened suddenly! Prognosis not good, I sent it back to factory (still
under warrenty).
However, I found a company called Dirt Cheap Drives in Texas who has 830 mb
Quantums (SCSI 2) for $279., and 1 Gig Quantums for $399. These are new (not
refurbished) and not OEM. They buy in large quantity and can pass the savings
along.

I have a quantum lightning pro scusi II hardrive on my GVP4008 equipped A2000.
It's not any faster than my old quantum lps hardrive.
Just thought you might want to know that.

Micheal, thanks for info on "DIRT CHEAP DRIVES" but shipping to the UK would
put the price far to high, luckily i can get a 730mb Scsi-Pro for #145 uk
pounds (about US$220) and a 1gb scsi-2 for uk#275 (about US$420) I asked about
the drive in the hope that it was I who was doing something wrong and not that
the drive was dead, it seems a waste throwing a 127 meg drive into the bin when
scsi has 6 positions open for use.
Thanks to everyone who helped with their input, but it seems that the drive
didn't want to give output.
