#Thor problem

I tried to follow your instructions. Still having problems. When I try to
"Connect Thor", the small window tells me that get TCP and NNTPGet are
working, then "GetTCP done". Then I get an error message, "error in my
config-file line 1". When I open the main Thor window and try "send events", I
get a window saying that it's already done. Another error message that has been
coming up is: "iobufr.c:find buffer(),line 685
cache miss, file sys:tcn/thor/data/bbstype.data.dup,
offset: 8244 IoErr(): 205
seeking error [then same path as above], 5096
not able to find prev. buffer"
I can't figure out what's wrong. I'm still not able to pick up my newsgroup
messages. Can you help?

Hi Hank,
first of all, the 'find buffer' and 'cache miss' are known bugs in ThorTCP. I
get them too and they are supposed to be fixed in the next release. In the
meantime, just avoid reading and getting messages at the same time.
If you use CompuServe to get onto Internet you won't be able to use 'Get Mail'
because CIS does not support POP3. As a result of this, you shouldn't use 'Do
All' either. But 'Get News', 'Browse News' and 'Send Events' should work fine.
Check ConfigTCP. Newsserver should be 'news.compuserve.com'. Also check you
have a 'system' setup in Thor (not ThorTCP!). The 'systemtype' should be TCP as
well. If it isn't, 'get Conferencelist' will not show up as an option in the
Dock-window.
If 'Send Events' says it's already done, it probably means you got nothing to
send. You can check which events are not done yet by using 'Events' in the
Dock-window.
If you can't get it to work, enter Thor, open your 'system' and choose 'Dock'
from the 'Windows'-menu. Tell me what options are listed there.

I haven't used "get mail" or "do all".

Done! I do get "get conferencflist" in the dock window.

"Events" in the Dock window tells me that my "join" requests for my news groups
are pending, as well as "get conference list".

Hi Hank,
as others already replied, I think your problem is in the
socket.library-emulation. Have you tried other programs that use this library,
like Grapevine, etc… .
I'll paste my 'ENV:SocketConfig' here:

I don't know if this error message refers to the socket.config file but here's
mine. There's no blank line.

Since I am only using one server at present (Cis), I don't think I have to use
"UMASK".
Any other suggestions appreciated. I'm still getting the "error in my
config-file line 1" in trying to "connect Thor".

When you get the error message…look at the title bar of the requester, it
should tell you 'what' file the message is refereing to. When you set-up AmiTCP
is the "USER' info you used…74357.2623@compuserve.com? If not, this could be
your problem?

No, I didn't use it because it didn't seem to fit properly in the box within
the set-up window, but when you made the suggestion about socket.config and I
was looking at it, I decided to look over my global variables in
sys:prefs/env-archive and ram:env. Both username and user were configured as
"hankduckman". I changed them both to "74357.2623@compuserve.com".
The next time I accesed Thor, I got the same error message, but when I clicked
on the error window to close it, Thor worked. I have now accessed my newsgroups
with it. Now I can work on learning to fine-tune it.
Up to now I have been accessing them through AutoPilot, and capturing them.
Should I unjoin from my Cis Autopilot connection???

Glad I could help…I went through a similar scenario. I think you could get by
with just 74357.2623…..the domain name would be sepearte. I have no idea
about unjoining from the CIS AP connection? If you still get the error message
from socket.library, check your socketconfig to see if USER is correct.
