————————————————- FORWARDED MESSAGE – Orig: 17-Aug-95 13:06:52 Subject: terrain modeling – Msg Number #304497 From: mark crigler 71533,2405 To: all Forum: ACAD Section: 07 – ————————————————- i'm running acad 12 and ame, along with 3dstudio r3. What i need to do is create a terrain model out of my contour map in acad. I thouht one of the edgesurf or similar commands would produce the grid to go into 3dstudio and render – but apparently i'm wrong. I know several of the 3rd party guys have programs to do this, but surely they rely on acad commands, and i can't pay their prices right now. isn't there someway i can move open or closed polylines to their correct elevation, and select them all to create a 3dmesh – that will go into 3dstudio? i've tried all the commands i can – including those in ame- to no avail. if someone can help i'd appreciate it. -mark crigler

Mark, >> I know several of the 3rd party guys have programs to do this, but surely they rely on acad commands, and i can't pay their prices right now. << Here is the poor mans way to loft your mesh, but it is a time consuming job. You need to create closed plines in ACAD and dxfout all 2D plines. Then you can bring bring the dxf into the 2D shaper and add vertices to each polygon so that they each have the same vertice count, then assign each polygon to a step in the lofter. -Mike
