Head Modeling?

I really enjoyed your presentation in UCLA a couple of weeks ago. You mentioned
you modeled several heads from photos including Hitler and others using
"SurfRev" in 3d Studio.
Would you explain briefly how this was done. I've seen a tutorial lofting head
shapes (slices) in one of the books but was curious how you used "SurfRev" or
was I mistaken?
TIA

Jerry,
>> curious how you used "SurfRev" <<
imagine slicing a head up into segments from the top, like slicing a cake.
These will be shapes you can put on a surfrev path. You can modify the path to
be more oval, but then the the vertices will be scrunched up in the center –
not too much of a problem with skin.
From this you get a basic head which can work well for skinning, which is my
preferred method until something better comes along (Nurbs or patch modeller).
Since there are so few points you can move vertices around and get good
results. It takes some time, though. I used all the photos I could for
reference. Good ones are profiles, straight on, perspective, the more the
better. You can scan in the photos and use them as proxy backgrounds.
I'll upload some images this week if I can.
