Gary\Jack,
Will the Pentium bug affect 3DS MAX?

When you load NT 3.51 it has a routine to correct the Pentium math bug, so if
you still have a bad chip (tsk, tsk<g>) it should be no issue for MAX.

Ted, I'm pretty sure that the NT FP fix shuts down hardware FP ops, and
replaces them with all software calls. Not exactly what you'd want to do while
using a 3D package!
I'm also pretty sure that MAX sticks with single-precision FP, so it really
shouldn't be any more of an issue that is was using 3DSclassic.
Jack could qualify this…

It certainly must be a software fix for a hardware problem and, you're right,
not something to do for heavy duty number crunching.
Thanks for bringing that up.

Yes but that fix will affect the speed of the computer.

It will indicate that you definately have the bad chip and it really should be
replaced. No one should expect programs to perform well on a faulty chip, if
the FP is used.

Gary's off on vacation, and I haven't the foggiest. As Ted mentions, NT has an
option to take care of the bug, but I'm wary of a software fix — not sure what
the speed hit would be. Since no one else in the Yost Group has expressed the
slightest concern about the famous bug during the entire development, it's
probably of zilch concern.

Okay.
