#Silver 3.0 SV

Getting back to the problem I was having with multiple light sources,
I am having trouble reproducing the problem. It appears that it probably
was due to ambient settings set too high.(the manual warns of this but
fails to indicate what is too high) unfortunatley there are many problems
like this in the Silver manual where experimentation is encouraged but no
"typical" examples are given. Experimentation is great but with so many
interacting features in the super-requestor now rendered one picture 140
times just learning how things work because of the skimpy docs.(sorry I
sound bitchy) Its a good thing I have a 68020.
I hate to sound dim, I have read the manual (over, over) How do you
create objects in the editor?? I cant figure out exactly how to create
vertices and connect them. At present I am having to use the object editor
in Sculpt4D and then use interchange to import them to Silver. Because I
just can't see how you do it using the Silver editor.
How do you pass attributes from a parent object to its dependents ?? I
have tried using "Apply" and "Cluster" to no avail. I have an object
imported from the Antic architecture disk it is a group object with several
dependents. When I select its hot spot it turns blue, I set its attributes
but even using Apply/Cluster doesn't
I ended up exporting it to Sculpt using Interchange then bringing it
back so it was one object. (no longer a Silver group). I followed the
directions on page 48 using multi mode, select the first object but when I
try to select the next object the first object turns green and moves. ???
Is there an easier way
John, please buy my tutorial videotape. It was designed specifically to
orient users who are new to Turbo's way of doing things. The concepts are
really not very different from Sculpt. It's just that you must go between
the various input modes (point, edge, face) as you create an object.
Applying attributes is simple: select the object with the attributes you
wish to apply, hold down the shift key and multi-select the object(s) you
wish to pass attributes onto. Select Apply and that's it! Make sure you
are in object mode when you do this. For a group, go into object mode,
select the parent and select the next object using the Next command or Rt.
Amiga-N. Then proceed as I indicated above. Your group is turning green
and moving because you are in Group mode. Remember to look at your title
bar for information on you current editing status. Above all, buy the
tape!!! 🙂 –Rick
I have been using Turbo Silver since it first came out, and I STILL have a
real hard time with the modeller. The renderer is second to none, but
creating and editing complex objects seems maddening to me. I find myself
wishing that there was a more reliable way of selecting points, for
example. If you have a cube that is perpendicular to the Front, Top, and
Right Views, I don't know any reliable way for selecting, say, all the top
point (let's assume I want to scale them). A selector device would be most
welcome. (Or, if the system provided a facility to specify a "depth" into
the display that you want selection limited to) [D. If you know of
something that I've missed, please let me know. I'd like to start creating
more sophisticated models.
Miles, there is a SET DEPTH command in the editor. Under the VIEWS (or
something like that) menu. It might be just what you are loo king for… I
too wish the editor was better. The Gang at Impulse kept telling me…
'use it for a while, and we think you will find it is easier and more
intuitive than others…'… well, I've used it for a long while, and still
don't find it easier (the opposite, in fact) Good luck –jp–
There is a set depth requester in the far right menu (forgive the
nontechnical description, I don't remember the menu name off-hand). Set
the height at which you want to select points while in the top view and
only those top points will be selected when you click on them. –Rick
Soon we'll have new InterChange modules for VideoScape 2.0 and Sculpt 4D.
Sculpt 4D's format allows hierarchies, so when going back and forth between
Sculpt and Silver, you'll no longer lose any hierarchy information. It also
supports the new metal and glass textures of Sculpt 4D. We'll post information
when they are ready, and registered users will get a flyer about the upgrade.
