#SilverLight

Hi Ho:
Dose any body know if there is a way to place a light inside a box
and not have the light light objects around the box? I am trying to create
a movie projector, and I want light to shine out of the top and on to the
reels. The problem is it seems to be "leaking through the box walls.
Any help is good help…

Brad,
I made some spotlights in Silver which did not seem to leak. What I did was
create a circular tube and place a flat circular disk over one end. If you
make sure the disk is slightly oversize and make the tube intersect it you
dont get any leakage. Moving a light source within the tube then lets you
alter the spread of the output light. I dont know if this will be of any
use as a projector?.

Have you set the attribute of SHADED for the box? If not shaded then the
box won't block the light source (increases rendering time, but that's the
price you pay 🙂 ) (Is shaded the right option? Now I'm uncertain, and
am at work so I cannot check…. its one of the attributes anyway. Anyone
else go a manual handy?) –jp–
I don't think the shaded attribute will work (isn't that only used
to make a light source cast shadows?). Just make sure the box is tightly
sealed on all the edges, and all filter settings (attribute requester) are
set to zero.

I think you are right. I just did a ten minute experiment. Tube with a
light in it, aimed at a sphere a bit away…. both tube and sphere are
SHADED (not that that makes any difference in this case)…
1. with light source (axis) as BRIGHT, the tube did not contain the light.
(FULL TRACE) 2. with light source as SHADED, the tube contained the light
onto a pinpoint on the shpere. (just the effect he wanted, if I remember
right) (FULL TRACE)
Note: you must be in FULL TRACE rendering to get this effect. If you are
in SOLID MODEL mode then you will never get the pinpoint light shading
effects.
Thanks for the clarification. –jp–
Imagine will enable you to create spotlights that only light a specific
area. It's very difficult to do this in Silver. –Rick
Hi Rick
I am not actualy tring to make the projector project. I will use a
surface selected to GenLock for that. All I am tring to do is get a little
light to shine out of the top of the machine. Like in school when you saw a
film there would always be a pool of light on the celing over the
projector. What is happening is the light is spilling through the walls of
the projector on the ground and even on the face of the projector it's
self.
Speaking of Imagine Did you read the artical in AmigaWorld about
The Toster,Spacificly Light wave (the 3D packageincluded) have you seen it
demo-ed. The 3D package not just the toaster. They said it may ship as soon
as early Sept. I guess I am triing to avoid the BIG question. Any new about
a releas date????????????
Thanks Brad Hayes
Brad, hate to be a pain, but are you sure: 1) your light is marked as
SHADED, and 2) you are rendering in FULL TRACE mode, and finally 3) it is a
light tight box you are using (other than the hole, of course!)? Any one
of the three would cause light to leak.
(are you using SV? – I'd have to check if these things were true in earlier
versions….) good luck.

I saw LightWave at Siggraph. It's VERY nice. Too bad it only works on the
Toaster. –Rick P.S. Re your problems with light, it's a problem with all
lighting in Turbo, because all lights are spherical. If you get Imagine,
you can create cylindrical and conical lights that affect only the area you
designate.
That's what I thought about Light wave… and as for my light problem. Boy,
do I feel like a ditz. the light I was using had not been shaded, So of
course it would not cast a shadow. DUUUHHH!!!
Thanx Alot
