I noticed the message about possesion sufficient rights to post materials in the libs. I have digitized some really neat photos from pictures in Aviation Week. Am I permitted to uplead them? I must have missed a message thread somewhere….

Douglas, The proof of distributability is up to the uploader. If you wanted to make sure you had the right to distribute digitized pictures from Aviation Week magazine you would have to contact Aviation Week and ask them for their position on the matter. -sja

Most people, it seems, are uploading material that has been published elsewhere first. There is, interestingly, an issue of "substantial changes" which, if applicable, makes YOUR version copyrightable in its own right, even if you ripped if off of somewhere else. Digital reproduction and issues of artistic ethics have collided and the courts have been awash with the waves from it all. If you do not intend to add your own touch to the work, be safe and credit the source somewhere in your file. I doubt they would make a big deal of it. CIS is certainly not responsible themselves, I can bet you. Ken Loss-Cutler
