All, — 1st some history… I am trying to do a '3D-morph' of two 3D objects (a competitors logo into our logo). In doing the tutorial and reading the manual on 'morphing' I saw a note that stated that in order to 'morph' one object into another both must have the same number of vertices. Both objects are available to me in 3D-ACAD drawings and I use Visual Link to port them over to 3DS (by the way, the port works very well). — The question… Is there some way in 3DS to make the two different objects have the same number of vertices (interpolating where necessary)? If not, any other ideas to get the '3D-morph' effect on two objects with different number of vertices. Thanks, Al Dass P.S. If you hadn't already guessed, I'm kinda new to 3DS… kinda.

There's a couple of ways, Al, just off the top of my head. First, you could morph both objects to a somewhat similar shape, and do a cross-fade between the two in Video Post (or even morph them in a 2D morph program). Second, Spherify.PXP, which comes on the Yost Groups' IPAS disk #2 Special Effects, will let you morph any object to a sphere, and you can cross-fade or cut between the two. You could always take the object with fewer vertices, tesselate to get close, and then add some arbitrarily to make them equal, although the outcome of this can REALLY be hard to predict! -Alan Iglesias

Alan, Your a god-send. I have already tried the tesselate way… and your right, it is really hard to predict. As for the the other ways I'll give them a try tonight (don't really know what a cross-fade is, but, it sounds kool enough to read the manual and find out) Thank you, Al Dass

Al, I just talked to Mike Davis of ADCO (602) 596-9050. He said that there is a package that will be able to fix these objects for # of vertices, and will be able to make them morph together smoothly (much unlike what tesellation would do). He is not sure exactly when this product will be released, but he said 'soon'. Give him a call for more info…
