Hey Greg,
Before I forget, I finally found some time to play with Altamira Composer
over the week-end and found some weirdness about it. First of all, who do I
ask these questions?
The biggest one is, after finishing a composition, how the heck do I save
the image to something readable by other programs? Something exotic like
Targa would be nice! <g> They only offer their .ACC when I save the
composition and if I save an "Image" only "a" image is saved (not the whole
composition) even if I select all images. I've read the docs from cover to
cover (that was a first <g>) and couldn't see it anywhere.
Other than that, the program is great. I've already made a first page for
the National Enquire (with a picture of my CEO and some text I can't say it
here). Now I'm working on Gary's shirt and sandals…
Glad the real world is starting to use a _real_ image-processing program. You
could call their general number at 415/332-5801, or you could simply use the
Flatten Composition command, described on page 4-14, and then save the image
out as a Targa or TIFF, or whatever.

Hey Jack,
I know I can "Flatten" the composition and save the "image". I just thought
there should be a way of "exporting" the composition without the need of
destroying it first.

Serious, me? I do have a big problem with that I guess. People at Siggraph kept
saying that. Gary expected this grumpy, German old man. Alan and Ralph were
thinking the same. The German part is right. Old man? I'm 32! Grumpy and
serious? Everytime I wear a tie people keep asking who got married. My boss
threw me out of the office and built a complete office in my house so I would
let the rest of the people work. Now my wife is saying I'm turning our 2 year
old son into some demented soul because I keep teaching him the words backwards
(and in 3 languages). Well, I bet he is the only kid who can say the alphabet
in reverse order mixing 3 languages (by the way, he can't do it in right order
and in a single language – he, he, he…)
Nah, serious? why? life is too short. The heck with it….

So true! When I first saw you at Siggraph, Gus, I looked at this smiling face
and said, "this can't be that mad guy on ASOFT!" I thought they were talking
about the guy *behind* you! But you're really just a funny nut like the rest of
us!<g> It was fun to spend a little time with you at the show. Hope to do again
sometime…

What are you going to "export" the composition to? Since Altamira Composer is a
unique program, no one else is dealing with multiple-image raster files.
(Though there's a lot of "smoke" out there.) As it stands now, you can save and
reload a composition of multiple images within Composer, but you're going to
have to create a single-raster file if you want some other application to use
the composition. It's a little like creating flics in AniPro, and then trying
to load them into PhotoStyler.

I see your point. You haven't seen mine. Why should I have to colapse the
composition in order to have a Targa file out of it? If an option of dumping
the composition out to a Targa "image" file was available, one keystroke would
do the trick. As it is now, I have to save the composition, select all images,
colapse, save the image and then reload the composition. It takes far more
keystrokes and time than needed.
The Flatten Composition command only collapses the composition in the output
file. It doesn't collapse the composition on screen. Sounds like what you're
looking for, right?

Altimira will save files in: TIFF, Targa, Picio(Pixar), JPEG, Windows BMP,
PostScript(.ps), and Encapsulated PostScript (.eps).
Did you try just "Image/Save Image As…"?

Nah, that won't work.
I don't know the program at all, but how about "flatten", and then
"save as" TGA, so the original file is not overwritten. That's my guess.

When you "flatten" or "colapse" a composition, you are getting rid of all layer
information and creating a single raster image (as opposed to several,
independent images). After you do that, you can then save the image out as
Targa and other formats. The problem is that in the process, you no longer have
a composition, you've just colapsed it down to a simple raster image. To go
back and continue to work with it, you have to reload it. At any rate, this is
just a minor anoyiance. The program is as adicting as 3DS. You keep playing
with it and creating some awsome images.
