#Rotoscoping with Par
3 messages in this thread
Greg- I know your not in the hardware support arena anymore, but maybe you can
shed some light on my problem since you're familiar with the drivers. I am
running a Par, TBCIV, and a Micropolis 2217A. I am back to 1.09 of the par
software because of troubles running the new update. My problem now is with
rotoscoping from the par. I can capture my video on the par just fine. I save
it in a file called ROTO.ANI. My question comes with running the
PXP in 3ds. The manual tells me to pull down the program menu and run PARDRV.
I havn't set PARDRV up in my programs on 3ds, and I have also run pardrv on
bootup. So dazed and confused I proceed to open the PXP loader and run DPSPAR.
I get a screen that looks close to what is in the manual, except my Increment
and Fixed buttons are reversed. OK, I'm still in the ballgame. I change my
bottom section of the PXP screen to TARGA, Next Frame 0, Frame, and Increment.
In the Materials editor I put the par drive in my map paths, and assign
ROTO.tga as a texture map. My problem is that it never increments. The only
way I can get it to increment is to rename the
ANI file to ROTO0000.ani and then it seems to skip 2 or 3 frames each time it
grabs a map. I can't get filename to work at all, but FIXED works great. I
tell you all of this to ask, should I be using a newer PXP? Mine is version
1.0. Also should I be looking at hardware problems… remember that I can't
get the new update to work either. However, ALL of the tests seem to be OK,
and the par and TBC software seem to work fine. Maybe I've miss-read (yes I
did read) the PAR manual. Any hints? Thanks,
-Mark
Mark:
If your rotoscoping is getting every third frame, all is working normally! (Not
as you want it, but normally! <bg>) The problem is that 3DS opens the file
three times, which the PAR sees and increments as it should!
What you need to do is create an IFL and use FileName, which always works. Use
makeifl.exe, written by the incredible J-me, which was included on your 3DS 3
disks. You may need to name the file Roto0000.ani instead of Roto.ani, too.

Greg- Thanks for the reply. I was trying to use an .IFL before, but had
mistakenly put the drive letter and path for the PAR in the IFL. Brick had
posted me and I realized that only the filename needed to be in the IFL and it
is working great. Thanks. -Mark
