This is a quick question I've been meaning to ask someone for a long time. How is the easiest way to draw a texture map in Ani Pro that is SMALLER than the resolution you are in and save it out as a .GIF ***WITHOUT*** the dead, black around surrounding your texture being saved too? I know you can set the size, blah, blah, blah…but isn't there an easier way? I usually just clip the area as a .CEL and save it as a .CEL, but I've noticed that a lot of people don't like to deal with .CEL files because nothing besides 3DS and Ani Pro will read them? Ideas? I see people with odd sized .GIF files all the time, but never took the time to learn an easy way to save odd sized .GIFs because my .CEL method works great for me….Thanks mark

The size of the flic determines the size of an output image (such as a gif) when you save a frame. You can specify the size of the flic either through New or Reset, or by loading a flic of a specific resolution (which automatically sets the size of the so-called "active area." I'm sure all of this is in the docs somewhere… – Jack

I don't know about an easier way, but the blah, blah, blah part you're talking about is the ONLY way I know w/o going to another conversion package to shrink the size, like ANICONV.EXE. Again, you have to work full screen. Jack's right though about setting the size when you use Flic/Reset/Set Size. AAPRO asks for a new resolution and shazzam! Your working area will be outlined in grey if it is smaller than the screen resolution. This is the EASIEST way to do what you want in AAPRO.

I thank you and Jack for the replies, but I guess what it comes down to is this: Is it worth it to save a map by setting the size and all that, when I can EASILY clip a .CEL and save it in that EXACT size WITHOUT all the sizing of the flic, etc…? I prefer to save .CELs like that verses sizing my flic, etc, blah blah blah, if I'm using 8-bit maps, but all the maps I've seen applied to objects seem to be in something other than .CEL, and nothing else will read a .CEL besides 3ds and AAPRO. What's everyone's opinion? Should I just continue using .CEL for 8-bit maps and shut-up, or are .GIF images worth the trouble? Mark

I haven't checked this, and it's been awhile, but I _think_ you can save a cel as a gif, which might solve your problem. In other words, clip the cel, use the Save/Cel button, and then switch to .gif in the file selector just before you save it. – J

🙁 No luck. What you described about clipping an image and saving as a .GIF file is pretty much what I wanted to no if I could do. I tried it, and didn't have any luck. Oh well, no big deal I guess. I'll continue using clipped .CEL files for quick 8-maps of odd ball sizes. Now if only AAPRO was 24bit… Mark

Sorry it didn't work out. Maybe next time. – J
