Vistapro & 3DS madness

John, Using Vista Pro's texture map over it's exported dxf would not allow any trees. I would assume the exported .dxf would be for placement- since it's colored black. Another idea is to remove the Vista Pro .dxf before rendering the final render (instead of black- it's quicker), and compositing the man made object over Vista Pro's output (with trees, etc.) I think that Vista Pro's output would be better than 3DS' in this case- and possibly just as quick. JNJ (BTW- I never got to thank you in person for the tickets. I looked for your booth, but couldn't find it. It was pure madness. Mabe next year?)

We were on the right, in the first hall on the right. You could throw a rock and hit the Apple booth; we were next to the Byte by Byte (Sculpt) booth, and across from the DeskStation booth. Maybe we should talk VRLI into making a Vista IPAS. 🙂

PMJI… I have Vistapro version 1.01 that shipped with _Inside_3D_Studio_, and can only import/export dem, pcx, and cmap files. I would like to creat dxf files. Do I need another version? I've had good luck setting up landscapes for use as background maps for still images in 3DS. Is there any easy way (via script maybe) that I can match a Vistapro camera move exactly to a 3DS camera move? I realize I will not be able to have the 3DS object cast shadows on the landscape, but if I can keep the camera and the "sun" consistent it would look pretty good. Paul

Paul, There is a coupon in the back of your "Inside 3D Studio" book that will let you upgrade to the CD version of Vista Pro 3.0 for $69.00. This version allows for the creation of DXF file in Vista Pro and the improting of camera positions from 3D Studio via the .VUE file. You can call 800-829-8751 for more info. Steven

I am interested in using V-Pro as a background generator could someone expound a little more on vue files and or tell me where they are documented? Thanks . ME

.VUE files are simply keyframe positions of all objects for each frame of an animation. Vistapro (correct me if I'm wrong) will only use the camera keyframes to generate a .SCR file (With VUE2SCR). Using Vistapro as a LANDSCAPE (not background) generator in conjunction with 3DS is really starting to work for me and although I am sure other people have more experience with the process, I'd be glad to share with you anything I've discovered. Using Vistapro as a background generator is fairly straightforward. Using it as a landscape generator is, in my opinion trickier. The difference is that as a landscape generator, you can have objects pass behind or be obscured by the landscape vs. using it as a simple backdrop generator. Thanks for the info. I guess what I'm after is where the VUE files are documented I havn't looked in the VP manual yet. That will be my next stop. ME
