I spoke with Alex Amor of CEI today. He remains "90 to 95" percent confident that his proposal for Commodore will be successful. He said he has met in New York with the liquidator and that his lawyer continues to be in contact with the liquidator on a daily basis. He said he expects a decision within "two to four weeks." I post this here because I think it may be of interest to forum members and I'm not sure I could construct a separate news story out of it. It looks as though this thing could stretch out even longer than most of us had thought. C=Uk is hoping for a decision by Sept. 20. — Dan

Thanks for the update, Dan. This "two to four weeks" jazz makes it sound like they're giving release dates for a new software products! 🙂 They should just say "Real Soon Now". 🙂

Thanks, Dan… Let's see now…Commodore UK is 99% sure they've got it, CEI is 90-95% sure they've got it…I love those numbers! Marion CROSSINGS Newsletter for Amiga/PC/Mac compatibility

Dan, Thanks for the news! CEI thinks they'll win, CBM-UK know they'll win. It sounds like an AWF wrestling match to me. AWF – Amiga Wrestling Federation Well lets hope that someone gets it soon, companies, distributors, and stores have been disappearing by the second (whoah! there goes another one). If they do not get it fast it won't matter.

I just hope with the liquidators not giving a hoot about the Amiga's future (not their job, I understand), this doesn't turn into the AWF – the Amiga Wrecking Foundation 8( DJ On AP from Queens, the rotten core of the Big Apple

Eulogio, It's not that the Liquidators don't care about the Amiga's future, per se. They have a fiduciary obligation to get the most money for the creditors when they sell the assets. They don't particulary care how much money the purchaser garners from the assets after acquiring them. If they can get more money for the creditors by selling the Amiga technology in pieces or selling the assets too late for the Christmas season, they will do that, as rightfully they should. Their obligation is to the creditors and not to Amiga owners. They would be breaching their fiduciary duties to the creditors if they acted otherwise. However, if not selling the Amiga technology right away, so that Amigas can be sold in time for the Christmas season, means that the value of that technology will decrease, and that future bids will be lower, then they will try to sell it right away. So they might be tangentially concerned with the Amiga's future, in that the value of the Amiga technology is worth more to a purchaser if they can acquire that technology in time for the Christmas season, rather than after it. Dan, As a long time Amiga user this is good news. After reading the interview with the head of the UK people I don't think they understand what makes the Amiga a good product. If you read any of the main stream computer magazines over the last few years, you will see they peg the Amiga's unique video capabilities as the number one reason to own one. If the UK has thier way, they would stagnate this capability and try to compeat with other PC's. I don't mind waiting another year for the AAA chips and a new Amiga, the 4000 computer line with AGA will still be a good computer for the next year. As a PC like computer, any new Amiga would cost too much, be too far out of the mainstream, have NO developers, and loose all thouse like me that need video capabilities. How about an interview with Alex Amor on what he would do with the Amiga? David B.

David The October issue of Amazing Computing for the Commodore (that will change shortly) Amiga contains a four page exclusive interview with Alex. He discusses his plans and his hopes for the Amiga. This interview was only fair, since we started the CBM Buyout competition with our David Pleasance Interview in the September issue of AC. The October issue is mailing today to subscribers and should be in stores the week of September 26. AC is now on a new schedule due to an extra two week delay at the printer's due to overbooking (this issue was submitted to the printer on August 24). I have been in contact with both CEI and David Pleasance. Although both groups would like to see this procedure over soon, I recently talked with Franklyn Willson, the CBM liquidator, who expressed FIRMLY! that he has only the best interests of the Creditors and that is his only priority. The challenge is in keeping the Amiga community informed and in working for a quick release of our beloved platform. Don Hicks Managing Editor

Don, Methinks Franklyn protests too much. He persists and desists and time flys and "the best interests of the creditors" will become their worst night- mare. Clearly, everyone who reads this forum or keeps up with the diminishing rumors has an understanding of the foolishness of playing out the liquidation till the last dog dies. It puzzles me that you or someone else who has had contact with this august (September now) gentleman hasn't been able to make him understand the practical urgency of making up his mind. For the nonce, I've bought an Emplant, a HD floppy drive, some misc. chips and internal floppy drives (in case there will be no more). I'm probably the only advertising agency owner in the USA who uses the Amiga and amiga software exclusively. I'm hoping for the best and losing hope. Help Franklyn to see the light! Tell him the creditors will SUE him when the whole thing tubes. Jon Byk

Hi Don – good to "see" you, good to hear you're still getting good articles for your magazine, and I hope all is well with you. Regards, Paul.
