Rotoscoping

Hello,
I work with a computer game company in North Carolina. Our next
project will be using rotoscoped video over 3d-Studio output.
We must work at a resolution of 640×480. My understanding is that
i must do the capture in to a frame buffer. I plan on doing this by
using a Diaquest 422+ and VTR. I have experience using a Targa+
but i am under the impression that it can't capture at 640×480 at 32 bits
per pixel.
Here are my Questions.
1. If i am capturing from video that was shot by a professional using a blue
screen,
and I capture at 640×480 at 32 bits per pixel , will my image be captured
with the correct alpha channel?
2. What frame buffer cards are recomended for this task? I have been looking
the Atvista from Truevision and the Matrox Illuminator Pro. I
any one can suggest any others please do so.

Perhaps one of the video experts can give you a more detailed answer, but my
understanding is that you can only video capture in whatever resolution your
Targa board is set to. However you should be able to take that image and
convert it to 640×480. As for Alpha, those last 8 bits are alpha information,
so if you have a 32 bit file, you should have alpha. I believe there are
settings on the TGA board when doing the capture that contol this.

The Targa+ 16/32 will frame grab at 512X486 at 1.266 AR and 32 bits per pixel.
To convert to 640X480 1.0 AR I'd take the grabbed frame as a background in 3DS
and render to 640X480 1.0 at what ever pixel depth you need by turning on
resize in render. It works better than a paint program. Easier!
