We do an awful lot of animation involving architecture. Sometimes its a 50 home subdivision, sometimes its a 500 unit condo project. We have to build homes and other buildings for rendering (we do no drafting). We are using AutoCAD R12 and 3DS2. What packages, add-ons, etc do you recommend to speed up the process? Also, we make a lot ot sites from grading plans. What do you recommend to speed this process up? We normally use a large digitizer to input contour lines or terrain breaks. Then we use Schreiber's latest Quicksurf to create a surface over plines that we entered. I would like to know if there is a better way to construct roads, curbs around parking lots etc. Thanks for any help. Dan Biggs (DDS)

Just an upgrade of 3ds would speed up your rendering and improve the quality. – Jack

Dan: Try Facade, a program which runs inside of AutoCAD, to greatly speed up your drawings of buildings in 3D. Eclipse Software (David Cohn [73417,167]) is often hanging around the board, ask him to send you some info. Greg Pyros

Dan, For use in conjunction with AutoCAD for 3d modeling I'd look at KETIV Technologies ARCHT product. This is _really_ an excellent tool for the 3d modeling of architecture. The phone number I have for them is (503) 252-3230. They also have very good technical support – quite rare these days. Mark

Hi, I have to agree with Mark. We also specialize in architectural visualization using AutoCAD and 3DS, and our choice is also ARCHT from KETIV Technologies in Portland, Oregon. We have been very pleased with it. For digitizing site plan contours, you're already doing it the way I would, using Schreiber's Quicksurf. For now, that is the best I have heard of. Brandon DesignTec
