Yes. There are a few new things. The graphics.library has a new function,
WriteChunkyPixels, which is primarily intended for retargettable graphics, and
screens can use chunky pixels IF you have a device supporting it – this is why
cards like the Picasso ship with 3.1, they work better with it. There is a
screen attribute to minimize the interscreen gap. There are a few very small
optimizations and additions, but most additions are in the disk based libraries
and the Workbench itself. I could be a lot more specific, but I can assure you
– the only difference between using WB 3.1 with ROM 3.0 and WB 3.1 with ROM 3.1
is that the graphics can draw a little faster with the 3.1 ROM – but not
usually noticable.
Installing 3.1 Workbench on a computer with 3.0 ROM will give you all the
features of a 3.1 system.
Funny, I put 3.1 software in my 4000 with 3.0 roms & had to go back to 3.0,
forgot exactly why, but it didn't work. They shiped the wrong roms (3000s) so I
haven't put them in yet, 'cause haven't made it to my techie. Both lazy &
afraid to learn how to do it myself on a very expensive, maybe irreplaceable
computer <G>.
I may try to overcome fear & learn by replacing a motherboard on a 286 someone
gave me, who cares if it go belly up <G>..

There were quite alot of bug fixes in 3.1 in the ROMS, haven't got the release
notes for 3.1 here though. Some of the a1200 ones I seem to remember were if
you were going to install an 040/060 and use the pcmcia slot (some timing
thing) and also something to do with it automatically disabling the pcmcia slot
if you have more than 4mb in the trapdoor slot. I haven't got 3.1 in my a1200
yet, but I think it will be my next purchase 🙂
BTW I am running 3.1 on the a1200 ( I bought the a1200 second hand and I think
there was a problem with the 3.0 fastfilesystem ). The only real thing putting
me off is that I would have to open it up.
