HELP!! I have 386 images that I want to lay down to tape. am using a frame buffer that reads 756X486. my images are mostly smaller that that and when using 3ds4 to put them on tape. if the images is not 756X486 then it says its the wrong size and quits. Is there any way of laying these images down without having to resize each one??? Can I create a background of 756X486 for each frame and then lay these on to that ?? I hate to have to go ba back and change each image [D [D [D [A [A [A [A [C [D/exit thanks \exit

If your dealing in american TV standard the standard res is 640X480 or 512X486. Most cards will not allow you to dump to tape higher than that unless your dumping to PAL or SECAM or they got you on a sales gimmic. (Video res being what it is). Marv….

Rock, if you use video post you could center the images within a 756×486 frame (make sure the resize button is off and the center icon is on) and resave them or possibly put them to tape from there (dont' remember if video post allows that).

Just use Video Post — you can have it automatically resize each frame OR you can have it crop the frame OR you can even position the frame in a larger frame. Just make up an IFL with the list of frames, and VP will do the rest (it will go VERY quickly, a few seconds each frame — the only problem is you need enough disk space, but it sounds like you only need less than 400meg, which nowadays is peanuts. If you have less, do it in batches and delete the old frames as you go). VP is about the most indispensible tool around, and I'm looking forward to an even more fully featured MAX version!

Dear Mike, I dont know if this what you want to do. Make the images into an .IFL, set up the background in any keyframer window as the .IFL file, then render that window. In the render dialoug box rescale the background, and set the render size to the required size, then render away. This will give you your images rendered at the new size. Hope it is what you need Regards Chris Averill

tried this and it doenst work. it works fine for one image but anymore than that and it quits and give the message "bitmap XXX.tga is wrong size" and then "Failed to get frame 130 of XXX.tga [C [B [D/exit

Rock, sounds like you have a corrupt file in the list (check frame 130 to see if you can view it), are picking up spurious frames from other directories, or some files have different sizes. A couple of suggestions: check the bitmap that video post is flagging. View it, get file info on it. have image alchemy check every frame for size and make sure they are all valid. You can use alchemy file*.tga -x |more change your map paths to point to only 1 directory, to avoid picking up spurious files.

each image is a different size the most common is 744X444. I want to have these images either resized or layed in the center of a 756X486 frame. I have been using Photoshop to adjust these images but all are RGB TGA files. If the image is 756X486 already then everything works just fine , It's realy screwy. it shou work unless there is a bug. I have tried in on two machines on with 3DS3 and 3DS4 both gave me the same error message. [Cthanks, Rock

Rock, PMJI, as I missed your orignal question. The 3DS.SET variable DTV-SCALE-UP (Disk-to-Video) parameter determines whethe a disk image is scaled or fill the screen or centered within it. VIEW-SCALE-UP does the same for that function. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Rock, I may be wrong (and it would be an easy test), but I think video post expects a sequence of images to be at least the same rez. I don't think it's a bug, it's probably the way they decided to do it. Alchemy could resize, but probably not center each image.

Martin, OK, you're wrong (didn't even have to test). Video Post has the bitmap positioning options in the Queue Entry dialog – Resize, Offsets, and Align. Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates

Kevin, >> you're wrong (didn't even have to test). Video Post has the bitmap positioning options in the Queue Entry dialog – Resize, Offsets, Align.<< I'm fully aware of the options. I just wasn't sure if vp would happily align a bunch of different resolution images in a sequence – that did require a test. And video post did handle them using an .ifl – but NOT when using a wild card. That's the problem, you have to use an .ifl – wildcards won't cut it for aligns. For my test I created 4 files name size ——– —– test0000.tga 32×32 test0001.tga 64×64 test0002.tga 128×128 test0003.tga 320×200 I could align to any size, and the crop performed as expected, at any rez, using test.ifl, but when I used test*.tga then I got the error: "bitmap test0001.tga is wrong size" I think it is a bug and I'd like my prize now please <G>. Although, I'd guess it's already known. Martin

Martin, I apologize, now you're RIGHT. I guess it would be a bug, but Gary's always pushed .IFLs as the preferred way to do things. One more reason why <g>. I would have tested it myself, but my demo system's hard drive is a little whacked. Looks like a Monday morning low-level and restore from backup. I haven't had anything go this bad for a long time. Kevin, >> I apologize, now you're RIGHT. << that's OK. Actually, I'm glad you "challenged" me because I wouldn't have taken the time to investigate the problem and try to reproduce the error if you hadn't <g>.

Actually, Chris, I was responding to someone else's problem, basically giving them the same advice. But I understand — it's easy to accidentally reply to the wrong person. I just hope the guy who had the original problem is okay now.

sorry but that doesnt work, i wish it did. when i render these images i have the images numbered and I have Queue Entry of VP set to ALIGN and the center one picked. If the images are not 756X486 it gives me the message "bitmap XXX.tga is wrong size" "Failed to get frame XXX of XXX*.tga" I understand it should work but its not the images are 744/478 [Dthe images are 744X478 or there abouts the images that are 756X486 work just fine

If the images are not 756X486 it gives >me the message "bitmap XXX.tga is wrong size" 3DS is giving you that error message? That sounds weird — do you have rescale selected as your rendering option? I have both clipped and resized images in exactly this way with no problem. Tell me the exact size of your bitmap you're having a problem with, exactly what you'd like it to be output to, and I will try it myself here.

my images are different sized but a very commom image size is 744 X 424 i want to set that images in a 756X486 image size. I have had no luck in trying to achive this although it should work. I have had two machines tel give me the same error message. Most of these images have been reworked in photoshop and have been saved as TGA files. If the images is already 756X486 then I post will read them and have no problem. if they are not exatcly 756X486 i get the message. [D [D [D Thanks, Rock
