I have been trying to make .gifs rendered in 3DS ver 3 with transparent backgrounds for the WWW. Since the background on WWW is not 0,0,0 but I have been told it is 191,191,191.. I have not been having a lot of luck as 3DS's 191,191,191 does not seem to match the WWW 191. What have I been doing wrong. Any help in pointing me in the correct direction appreciated. Have tried using GIFTRANS and I simply cannot get any new file created with transparent backgrounds. Thanks for any help, insight……………………………Jane

Jane, you might try rendering with 3DS's gamma set to 1. Hopefully, this will get your background to render the correct color. Hope this helps, -Alan

>I have been trying to make .gifs rendered in 3DS ver 3 with transparent backgrounds for the WWW. Since the background on WWW is not 0,0,0 but I have been told it is 191,191,191.< There is no set background color for web browsers. Browsers like Netscape and Mosaic can have any color as the background. >I have not been having a lot of luck as 3DS's 191,191,191 does not seem to match the WWW 191.< >What have I been doing wrong. Any help in pointing me in the correct direction appreciated.< Get a program called GIF Construction Set. It allows you to pick the transparent color from your image with an eye-dropper tool.

Thanks Tim, I have programs that will do that, PhotoShop3.0, CIS's Spry Imageviewer, AniPro and even PSP will do. What I am trying to do is make it transparent no matter what the background color is. Any other hints……….Jane

David, Have PSP 3.11 and sometimes I can get it to AT LEAST color the background the 191,191,191. In fact the 1st time I tried it,it worked beautifully, except I do not know exactly how I did it as I was trying all kinds of things. ON some .gifs I can use the 'change background' thing and on others (with blue backgrounds)..No can do. If you have done this, could you please give me a step by step. I know none of this works on 0,0,0 backgrounds. Have read most of the docs and am still not able to repeat my 1st success. Any help appreciated………..Jane

If it isn't you need to make it one color since transparent gif's only allow you to use one color value. And like I said before the background color for web browsers is not 191,191,191. I can make any color transparent in a gif. Go to the graphics file finder and search for GIF Construction Set. It allows complex editing of gif files.

Tim, Thanks, but I have searched the newest CIS CD and cannot find GIF CONSTRUCTION kit anywhere on the whole CD. I have tired all forums. But will look where you have told me to look ON-LINE. Hope my 5 hours to look different places kicks in SOON, as with being on 3 different on-line services..there is still much to be desired. Thank for all the help and I WILL let you know of my sucess or no sucess. Thanks..Jane who always needs help one way or another 🙂
