Jerome, keep in mind that Corel *bought* it's raytracing abilities. The Yost Group typically writes their own stuff, or provides a way for others to contribute. This way of thinking, I feel, is neither ignorant nor arrogant. I just don't want you to be too dismayed if MAX doesn't ship with RT capabilities. Whether it does or not, I feel quite sure we'll have many options very soon. -Alan

<< Jerome, keep in mind that Corel *bought* it's raytracing abilities. >> True. << I just don't want you to be too dismayed if MAX doesn't ship with RT capabilities. Whether it does or not, I feel quite sure we'll have many options very soon. >> Well, it would take a lot more than that to dismay me with MAX or with YG. And there are a lot more important issues than ray-tracing capabilities, because, as you said, those options will come from SOMEONE. However, I DO think that the time has come, and would like to think that people could have ray tracing options built right in without having to go out shopping for another rendering addition. With a YG product, we could be assured of quality, and be assured we would have options of blending in the clssic 3D rendering features with just a couple touches of ray tracing, as oppsed to having to invoke a whole, seperate rederer that would have an entirely different appearance. I would like to see some materials have the ability to have ray tracing, while others don't. As I said, though, I just don't think YG would fail to include a raytracing engine in Max, even if it shipped later.

Selective raytracing, using the MAX renderer, is one of the options I suspect we'll have, Jerome. -Alan

>> Selective raytracing, using the MAX renderer << Now that would be way-HOT, indeed! …the ultimate solution that pairs speed w/ photorealism. Let's hope it comes to be. – ej
