#PVR How everybody doing
16 messages in this thread
I usually read a lot of Perception problems or praises.
Since I am in line for one I was wondering how everyone is doing
good or ???? not so good… I was wondering if anybody had big
audio sync problems and if they have solved them.
Should I be looking at the TargaPCI 2K. instead.
Thanks for any info Bob..
My opinion is that you cannot beat the PVR from a hardware standpoint: the
video quality and performance is better than any compression hardware I've
seen, and I've seen a lot of them by now. (Keep in mind that the PVR produces
video which is REALLY up to D1 standards!) The fact that the device is so cheap
only improves the value. The main problem with the PVR at this point is that
the software which DPS has provided is so UNBELIEVABLY awful, it'll make your
brain throb. The Windows 3.1 software (all that is currently shipping) has a
bizarre interface with countless omissions and quirks (the DOS PAR software was
much more practical) and the NT software (alpha/beta) is interesting, but has a
long ways to go. With a little discipline, you can, however, get work done. Use
of third-party software such as Razor is probably advisable.

I'd like to add my two-cents-worth but my PVR and capture card have been on
back order for over a month. Either a lot of people are buying these
contraptions or D.P.S. Inc is having some a whole lot of manufacturing hang
ups.
Phil
A friend of mine who got his PVR and Capture board about a month ago, just got
a letter from DPS saying that if your PVR boards serial # has an F,G, or H in
it, to call DPS to arrange for a swap of PVR boards. PVR boards in these
production lots have a bad chip in them that could cause problems using the PVR
under the right circumstances.
My friend called DPS and they said he should have the new board to swap in, in
about 3 weeks.

I just received a shipment of my current back-orders.. We've got 'em now (when
we can keep 'em!), so I would imagine that you should have one soon, too..
Terry
No, I don't have mine. It is frustrating, to say the least. The vendor I am
going through (Anti-Gravity, in Los Angeles), has a mantra that goes something
like "it will be in in 2 weeks." But today I got a sales person there to admit
they just don't know. But since the hang up lays in a chip problem (that has
now been caught at the manufacturer), I'm glad I didn't experience the aggro
and dissopointment with the PVR product itself.
I feel that DPS has put its retailers on the hot seat, when it should have
made loud public announcements about its distribution and manufacturing
difficulties.
Phil
Philip,
DPS is currently quoting filling back orders (and current new orders)
within 30 days. It's certainly hoped that we'll get them filled sooner, and
that's probably true for orders earlier in the queue.

Psst.. I have 2 PVR's on the shelf waiting to go, and one AD-2500 daughtercard
(video in).. E-mail me if you're interested..
Terry
Thanks. I ought to check my -mail more often. Do you have any PVR & AD-2500's
in stock? What's your company name, address and phone
numbers?
Phil
We should take this to private e-mail, but I do have 2 PVR's and one AD-2500
sitting less than 2 ft. behind me!! BTW: My phone# is 810-704-0189. Your lucky
day, 'cause I'm having one "heck" of a special now..
Terry,
PMJI, but do you still have one of those PVRs? I'm seriously interested… if
so, e-mail me with details … got my Visa in my hot little hand!
BTW, I've been following a thread here talking about clearance problems fitting
all those PCI cards. Is this just a problem when adding on the AD-2500 (and
potentially the upcoming audio card) or is the PVR itself unusually bulky?
SCL
Terry,
Do you still have a PVR 2Ft. behind you or are they already gone?
How much and how can I pay for it?
Thanks in advance

I just noticed your CIS User ID, and you must be in Europe somewhere, right?
FYI, the PVR's I stock are NTSC.. Do you need PAL? If so, I just have to order
them.. I've been told it's not a problem, though.
If you do need NTSC, I do have 'em, but due to forum rules, I can't really
quote prices here. E-mail me with the same question and I'll letcha know..
Thanks!
Terry –
Just a note – CIS ran out of the old series of UID numbers and has started a
new series of 102 numbers that are a digit longer than the old ones. Now the
"10" no longer applies to out of the US members. Wish it did since it was a
good help in keeping track of where folks were from. Most of thhis new 102
group is actually US members.

Terry,
I'm interested in the PVR and the daughter card. I have a dealer less than a
mile from me but I'm understandably looking for the best price available. What
are you willing to part with the two for?
I need to know asap!
Thanks,
Ron
P.S. Are you in California, would that included sales tax?
Please ask me this in private e-mail.. (Darn forum rules..)
Thanks!! You'll be happy!
