Hi, like many other I have Win95 now. When I use 3DS in a DOS box (full screen) I have the following problem: my Pentium/100 has 64 megs (that`s not the problem <g>). When I render complex scenes with 3DS and 3DS needs more memory than available Windows gives him as much memory as it finds on my harddisk. 3DS thinks this is real RAM and uses it as much as it can. That`s the reason why the status bar in 3DS says : memory used 435008 MByte, Swap = 0. What can I do to say Windows that 3DS creates VMM by itself or should I say 3DS that it will get the memory from Win95 and swapping is not needed? I hope I explained the problem clear enough! I`m very nervous since I have Win95. Please Gary, speed up developing of 3DSMAX!!! <g>. Michael

Flipping 'eck 400 megs Ram LOL, Two solutions, wipe off your Hard Drive and replace dos and windows 3.1, <g> or, partition the HD, and change the address of the swap file for the partition, I havn't tried this as I have stuck clear of 95 after hearing horror stories about it and 3d Studio, But full marks to you Mike for forging ahead! If that doesn't help I sure one of the clever people here will tell you the "proper solution", How does 3D's perform under 95? Matt:)

killing Win95 and go back to the roots (MS-DOS 5.0) would be great but`s impossible in our production studio. I think partioning my HD isn`t the way I want to go. There must be an other way… However, thanks very much for the comments. Maybe I`ll kill Win95! Michael

Michael, I have run 3DS on win95 since early beta and have found that you do not want to run it in a dos window. If you run 3DS as a dos window, you will lose about 20% of your performance. You are better off by exiting out to DOS prompt and run 3DS as always. You must make sure that you enable mouse and CD drivers if you expect to use them. I have had problems with Novell personal netware under Win95 so I have a multiboot configuration for Novell networking. I boot the system select the Novell configuration and elect to boot to command prompt only. If I do this, Everything works as it used to. Let me know if I can provide you with other info. Thanks for the information. I think I will not use 3DS under Win95. I hope 3DMAX is out soon because 3DS, RayMan and the Norton Commander are the only DOS programms I use. Michael
