I would like to be able to display a short video sequence in an application
(actually Lotus NOTES but I never said that!).
I can embed my .AVI sequence and double click on it to make it play, so far no
problem……..but………
When I CLOSE the object after playing I get the "Do you want to save your
changes"dialogue box (presumably because double clicking opens the object for
editing) and this I don't want the user to see – they didn't edit it so what
should they want to save it?
Anyone got any bright ideas about how I
a) Get rid of the "save" box
b) activate an object in a "view"mode rather than an edit mode?
All comments/ideas will be gratefully received!

72500341.6 Thanks. I'll keep looking for his whizzo ideas!
Carron,
Take a look at the file FLICIN.TXT in the libraries. That is the method that I
use to import animations into other Windows programs like Powerpoint and Word
for Windows.
Using this method, the animation opens and closes. I have never gotten a "do
you wnat to save?" prompt. So check this out and see if you are doing the same
procedure. If you are, and you still get the prompts, It is probably lotus
notes that is throwing it into edit mode, not the Windows player. (Remember,
the Windows player is a player only, it has no editing capabilities, so it has
no functionality to request you to save changes to a FLC file. )
If the doc doesn't help you, let me know and I will actually test this in
Notes. BTW, are you just using Notes, or some type of interface like VIP or
some VB app?

Thanks, I'll have a go. I'm using a full implementation of Notes Client (for
Windows) and the source is an OS2 server driving 12 clients and two servers.
Brian (second reply)
I just had a look at FLICIN.TXT and this is OK for LINKING files using MPLAYER
and you are quite right, LINKED files will not give the "SAVE CHANGES" message.
My need is to embed NOT link – within Lotus Notes only files which are embedded
will be replicated to other users so embedding is absolutely vital.
The Notes MediaManager is actually a better player than MPLAYER as it freezes
the animation on screen at the end of the play and allows the user to rewind or
replay using buttons actually on the animation screen.
Any other bright ideas much appreciated……
Best regards CARRON.
Carron,
yes you are right. That is for linking and not embeding. Thus,it wouldn't be
replicated.
Also, I am not as familiar with the Notes MediaManager, so I don't have a ready
answer for you. If your experimentation is successful, please let me know how
you did it.
