#Max Render Farm?
5 messages in this thread
Does anyone know if there is any information on whether 3DS MAX will still
render on a non-workstation machine without a dongle? (free render farms)
TIA

Ron, as Gary has stated that MAX's network rendering capabilities will be very
much like Classic's, I'd be *extremely* suprised if the "one hardware lock –
many slaves" philosophy is done away with.

I can't wait for MAX. NT networking is fantastic, the administrative tools
allow you to run an entire network from one machine. I can imagine a rendering
event viewer and performance monitor similar to the tools that ship with NT.
All the tools can have graphical interfaces with graphs for progress displays.
I'd like to get a killer Alpha box to use as a render engine. I'd be tempted to
use it as my workstation though.
Hopefully any protocol, especially tcp/ip, will work. I don't have IPX or
NetBEUI on my NT network.
While it hasn't been decided, probably the most practical protocol is the
Microsoft Network NetBEUI. You don't need any new hardware and the computers
just start talking to each other. Makes sharing computers and drives a real
joy!

I share your enthusiasm about MAX, Tim.
As you point out, NT's network capabilities are quite extensive and easy to
use. This should help make network rendering a much easier operation (for many
folks) than it was in DOS.
