#Path in Keyframer
6 messages in this thread
Is there a way to rotate an entire path as an"object"? I want to take an
object with a predefined motion path, and rotate the path intact so the object
will move in a different direction. I know I can move each individual key
frame, but I am looking for some sort of short cut. -Scott
P.S. Hey Gary, this would make a great feature for 3D Studio Max!d
Scott,
You probably know this already, but I thought I'd throw it in. If you created
the path in the lofter or the shaper, you can rotate it in one of those and
re-get it.

Scott,

link the camera and target to a dummy as children of it. Rotate the dummy. If
you want to unlink without losing the new positions, delete the dummy but say
no to delete sub-tree.

I don't know if there is an easier way, but this is how I rotate a simple
keyframer path (I don't know how it will work for linked objects):
-Save the project containing the orig path to disk as a .3DS file
(not as a .PRJ).
-In the Editor, make a copy of the keyframed object using a shift
move. Rotate this new object in the editor the number of degrees
you want to rotate the KF path. This rotates the transformation
matrix of the object.
-In the KF, do Object/Tracks/FileInsert, click on the new object,
pick the .3DS file, pick the original object from the list, set
scope to Object and method to Relative. This will apply the old
path to the new object but it will be rotated in 3D to align with
the new object.
BTW, you probably know this, but you can hold down the ALT key to move
(translate) an entire path with the Path/MoveKey command.

Thanks, this looks like what I was hoping for. -Scott

Just create a dummy object. Link the object to this dummy, then rotate the
dummy. The path will now be rotated in the direction of the dummy.
