#Prospective A500 Owner

I've pretty much decided to purchase an Amiga 500, but have a few questions I
was hoping someone could answer:
(1) I've heard reference to poor quality ontrol concerning the 500.
How concerned should I be about this? Is it so bad that I should
seriously consider purchasing the 2000 instead?
(2) What amount of memory should I add to the 500 to provide it
with acceptable functionality, and what product or products do
you recommend? Should I go beyond the 1M that's possibl
internally?
(3) Is there an extra charge for the A500 power supply? (4) What software
is bundled with the 500 at this time?

Addressing your comments by number:
1. I've had an A500 for about 2.5 months now and have had no QC complaints.
I'm just one owner, but, I wouldn't expect any better QC on the A2000,
after all, it is still being built by the same company to the same QC
standards. Keep in mind that C-A doesn't like to fix defective machines
any more than a customer likes to get one!
2. I've found 1M to be acceptable for what I do, but I certainly wouldn't
recommend any less. It would be nice, but not essential in my usage,
to have more memory available for RAM disk. A second 3.5" floppy drive
is essential, though, unless you like swapping disks for what seems
like an eternity!
3. (guess what, your third question just scrolled off the screen – guess
I'll let somebody else handle that one!)

Stephen,
1) I bought the first A500 my dealer sold, and was first on this board with one
(middle of June). Have had zero problems. The choice between a 500 and a 2000
should depend on what you want to do with it, not quality control.
2) I've added the additional internal 512K card (with clock/calendar) marketed
by Commodore, and none of the applications I use including LARGE documents in
Wordperfect have had any problems. I'd recommend a second disk drive (external
of course) to avoid disk swapping.
3) The power supply is included.
4) If you're a member of a C-64 user group, there are two terrific deals on
bundled software. If not, you're on your own with AmigaBasic, the operating
system, and a few utilities.
