Mindscape Animation Productions changes its name to Choreo Motion.
KALAMAZOO, Michigan.–January 05, 1995–Mindscape Animation
Productions is officially dissolved, and shall now be known as Choreo
Motion. Taken from the words "choreoghraphed motion", Choreo Motion
shall seamlessly assume all of the services of the former company.
The name change is a volunary action taken by the former Mindscape
Animation Productions to aviod public confusion with and potentential
legal action from Mindscape, Inc., known mostly for its development
of video games and use of computer graphics therein.
Choreo Motion is a Kalamazoo, Michigan, based company specializing in
the production of computer graphics and animation, serving customers
in the areas of Entertainment, Commerce, and Industry.
Any questions regarding this change can be e-mailed to this CIS UID,
or by calling Choreo Motion directly at (616) 372-0473.
END.
Sorry to hear that James! What a hassle. But to tell you the truth
Choreo Motion is cool, and I especially like C Motion. Don't ask me
why except that its got something to do with the relationship of C
code and motion and SEE Motion… and then of course there's Coulter
Motion… <g> associations work for me. 🙂 Best of luck in the new
year!
John:
I'm liking the fact that Jim managed to get his favorite cookie into
his company name chOREO! I'll have to name my company Chips Ahoy,
Inc. to keep apace. <g>
Bob
>> the fact that Jim managed to get his favorite cookie into his company name
chOREO! <<
I shoulda known, another Cookie Monster. <g> I like Mrs. Fields but
that doesn't have a ring to it like "Chips Ahoy Animation Works".
What a life us animators lead. <g>
Hey, maybe I could serve Oreo cookies at the final presentations! What a way
to get people to remember my company name!! 😉

<< Hey, maybe I could serve Oreo cookies at the final presentations! <<
I was going to say… <g> but then John S. responded and I thought no, while
that's something I might do, I know there's alot stuffed shirts out there, and
decided I'd just keep quiet. <g>
John
> Jim managed to get his favorite cookie into his company name chOREO! <
Ut-oh! I've been figured out! I guess I better lock that bag of cookies in my
file cabinet before people start looking for hand-outs!! <BG>

Thanks, John. I am pleased to hear you like the new name! Some of the people
I consulted did not like the name because it is not intuitively associated with
'animation'. I feel that doesn't really matter since the words "Computer
Animation Services" will appear below "Choreo Motion" on most (if not all) of
our literature.
I like the new name and the many associations you've mentioned. In
the short form of [C Motion], I also like the association to the
word 'commotion': boistrous noise or activity; ruckus. Customers
should like the fact that, when they make out the check, they don't
have to get writer's cramp from spelling out the long name of
M-i-n-d-s-c-a-p-e (is that one word or two? — Cap the 'S'? )
A-n-i-m-a-t-i-o-n (Do I have to print the _whole_ name?)
P-r-o-d-u-c-t (breather to shake pain from hand) -i-o-n-s (sigh of
releif).
Of course, most of my customers print their checks on a computer anyway, but
"Choreo Motion" is smoother to pronounce, unique and thus easier to remember,
and does not seem so overstated.
I have a high aim for 1995. A new year, a new name, a new company image, and,
with luck and hard work, some new hardware/software — all promise to launch
Choreo Motion on an exciting voyage. Don't look for much from Choreo Motion in
the screening room at this year's Siggraph, since this year is "gear-up" year
— but WATCH OUT in '96 'cause there's a new "warrior on the mesa"!!
— James E. Coulter — Choreo Motion —
All the conjuctive combinations like Anigrafix have their drawbacks
too. You wouldn't believe how many different spellings I get and how
difficult it is for some people to pronounce. In the end people often
don't get it anyway. Or I get, "Oh I see" but you really get the
feeling they don't. <g>
So I think Choreo Motion works at least as well as Anigrafix from that
standpoint. As Shakespeare said, "a rose by any other name…. "
Anyway it all sounds terrific and inspired!
>> a new warrior on the mesa!! <<
Yeah, go for it, the Great Spirit is with you. 🙂
John
PS. I agree with Bob, I like the "oreo" in the middle too. Bunch of cookie
monsters around here. <G>
Robert, James and John,
You guys are pretty good with this word stuff…. better than me for sure.
Ya'll stay up all night burning brain cells or what??? <GGG>
Ritger: …favorite cookie into his company name chOREO!
Gib: oreios [ Greek – of a mountain oros mountain ]
Ritger: … to keep apace.
Gib: You left out the "h" ROBERT ) It's apache, I think. <G>
Coulter: cause there's a new "warrior on the mesa"!!
Gib: I can already see the smoke signals on the c horizon!! 🙂
Apache, warrior, oreios, mountain, mesa Sheesh!
Coulter: I have a high aim for 1995.
Gib: The sun? Let me know if I can help "El Flechador Del Sol."
Eltrain: …the Great Spirit is with you.
Gib: Hunh? I was wandering where the Great Spirit was off to… <GGG>

Another illusion behind a curtain.
Coulter: [C Motion], —> 'commotion'—> boistrous noise or activity; ruckus.
Gib: Hey, now that's the spirit!

What is animation? Motion that is defined, or choreographed motion.

Only where the medium of exchange is gold. 😉

Have you ever heard the song "Oreos" by a band called "Free Hot Lunch"?:
Oreos, all she left me were these Oreos,
chocolate crumbs scattered across the floor,
and out the door, when she went away, (bum bum de dum)
Oreos, I remember eating Oreos,
after midnight in our underclothes,
I suppose that's why she went away, (etc.)
Munching and moaning, crunching and groaning,
snacking the night away,
pitcher of milk on the bedside tray,
covered with crumbs at the break of day, (wa doo hey)
Oreos, I'll never taste another Oreo
It would remind of the girl I loved,
all because of how she went away.
This one is sung in a "Mr. Sandman"-style, another Wisconsin export. FHL is/was
a cross between Jimmy Buffett and … oh, I don't know what. Chennille
Sisters, maybe. They've got other hits like "Penguin Love" ("and when that
penguin boy starts to feel that heat; what happens next, they're all smooth
underneath?"), "Sex By Mail" ("Now don't be Cross with your Papermate, you
never used to worry when the mail came late"), "Sidewalks on Parade", "Tequila
Sheila", "I Hate to Wake Up Sober in Nebraska," "Sex in a Volcano," etc. all
on Flying Fish Records.
(bum bum de dum)
Take 5 this please. 😉 ROFL!!!!!
Stop it!
You stop it!
I like Choreo Motion too James. Probably even better than.. that long one..
M.A.P. (I'm too lazy) 🙂 Just don't mention the oreo in the middle, or you'll
totally make clients remember your name that way. Your clients will have
cookie monster indellibly printed in their mind. 🙂 Not a good way to start
out for the great new "warrior on the mesa"!!
Choreo Motion evokes.. smoothe, fluid, guy's using motion capture eating oreos!
C Motion- a bunch of little C's running around in chaotic motion. <g>
Good luck-

Hey, there are worse things in life than reminding people of one of Kip
Henson's creations!! And who says warriors doen't eat Oreo cookies anyway!
<BG>

PS: I'm glad you like the name!

<BG><
Hehe, if it makes you feel better, I eat an occasional oreo myself.. but I'm
only just got out of training. 🙂
John
Congrats on the new name(s)!
Paul S.
Thanks, Paul ! — six days into 1995 and its already shaping-up to be a great
year!!
— James — Choreo Motion —
Thanks, Paul! How are things at LEVEL 5?
— James — Choreo Motion —
>> How are things at LEVEL 5? <<
I'm doing a lot of marketing right now, but it is slow going. A super big
(3 month) project bogged down because of infighting, disorganization, and
general weaseliness among the corporation's partners. I'm out several weeks of
effort. 🙁 I'm making a name for myself here, but this market is having a
hard time affording 3D stuff. Made some good contacts last week, dudes with $
and volume. 🙂
Thanks for putting up the first page of the yearbook. I haven't looked
for it yet…
Paul S.
> I'm doing a lot of marketing right now, but it is slow going. <
I can associate with that. I have been lucky for the last few months — I've
had a few projects to help keep the wolves from the door, but I have wraped up
these projects and it's time to go knocking on doors.
— James — Choreo Motion —
Oh, that explains it; never mind!
