Where can I find the specs for Emplant? I've heard do many rumors.
What makes you think that it'll never take off??

What makes me think the implant won't fly ?
I am just skeptical about the product. Have you ever heard about the word
vapor ? Have you ever heard about the Atari emulating the Amiga ? Have you
ever heard about Macintoshes emulating PCs ? Well, Macintoshes do emulate
PCs, it's just slower than your average PC XT, but it is compatible…
Have you ever heard about Commodore's SideCar ? Commodore did build a
few… but never was able to really work it out.
I will believe it when I see it working Louis.

Actually, I had one (A Sidecar) and sold it to my brother with my old
Amiga 1000. I put an IBM type HD controller in it and a 30 meg HD and it
is still working great. He seems somewhat content with it except for
wanting more power, power, power…but he doesn't have or doesn't want to
spend the money to upgrade to a more powerful system.
The HD is partitioned 20 megs for Amiga and 10 megs for IBM. He uses
the IBM side FAR more than I did. The Sidecar really does work…but not
after a long time and patience trying to get it up and running. I got
lucky finally.
I still have a broken Sidecar and Commodore says if I send it in with
$95 they will send me a factory sealed or refurbished unit. That is what
I had to do with the last one and the one they sent me was factory new…
still sealed in plastic. Apparently, they had or might still have some
socked away in a warehouse somewhere.
All this talk about the old SideCar reminds me of an interesting thing
that happened to me.
In September of 1989, while in transit from the USS Midway back to the
states, I spent the night in Diego Garcia, a small island in the middle of
the Indian Ocean which has a rather important US Navy base. It is so
small that, at the time, it did not even have a Navy Exchange, just what
the called the Ship's Store.
About one hour before I was scheduled to fly out, I visited the ships
store, where they were having a sale. They were selling Amiga 2000 CPU's
for $500.00 and Sidecars for either $100 or $200 dollars. I could not
believe it!. As I had a nice sum of money on me (travel pay), I was
frantically trying to decide if I could buy two or three of these, get
them on the airplane with me, and sell them off for profit somewhere else.
In the end, I decided against it, but if I had more time, I might of made
out.
I did save of few folks though. I say three guys in the line for the
cashier with Amiga 2000 CPU's under one are, and Sidecars under the other.
I am sure no one at the store would of stopped them, and they would have
had a real nice time trying to hook up the Sidecar to a 2000.
Take a look at MPLANT.LHA in lib 4:
"This is a file I found on a local BBS that is supposedly pictures of
the upcoming Emplant Mac emulator from Utilities Unlimited. There is
also a text progress report included. Please consider this rumor!"
