#Cutting frames in VP

Gary, I wish to cut seven images from an eight hundred frame sequence. Video Post doen't seem to allow this. Frames 640-646 are to be cut. Then I'd like to begin frame 647 at position 640. We've played with the sliders. Looping won't do. We can pick up again at frame 640, but only at a lower frame count. Is fooling Vido Post, by renaming & starting with 0000, the only fix? BB

Bob, is the animation rendered yet or not? If so, in what format (FLC, TGA)? If it is an FLC, the easiest is to use Animator Pro to do it. Load up the FLC, go to the desired frames and delete them in the Frame menu. If they are a sequence of sequentially numbered TGAs just delete those 7 TGAs and renumber the frames. If you haven't rendered yet, you may be able to delete the keys of those 7 frames (if there are any) and then use the slide option in Track Info to slide all preceding keys back 7 frames. This may not be the best method in this case. You will have to experiment a bit to get the right result. In any case keep a backup of the animation in case you make a mistake. Dear Yann, The scene is rendered as Targa files. Gary got back to us with an easy fix. Make a .IFL file. Thanks for you reply. BB

There are lots of ways to do this, but I need to know what format your images are in first… are they flics? Targa files? Is it a KFScene? One of the simplest ways to deal with any frame-numbering sequence ANYWHERE in 3DS is to make an .IFL (image file list) file. That gives you total control. There's a handly little utility for making these in DL1 called MAKIFL. – G

Dear Gary, Ah, yes, the .IFL file. This will take care of it. Yost to the rescue again! The scene was rendered, and I wasn't looking forward to doing it over. I thought the answer was going to come through the .vue routine. Haven't used that yet. This is GREAT! BB Note: Wonderful job on IPAS! This should give everyone involved a deep sense of accomplishment. I'll be ordering next week.

Always glad to help (as usual). Thanks for the feedback on the IPAS stuff (we're pretty proud of ourselves right now). Drop me a line here after you've had a chance to play with them for awhile! – G

Bob: This may be an over-simplified answer to your question, but that's what we excel in! From your description, it seems that you have a single animation that is 800 frames long. You want to delete frames 640 to 646, and have the old 647 become the new 640. Right? The cheating way is, of course, to go to the keyframer and just move or slide the frames over. However, that seems too easy, and could have problems with specific keys and timing of routines. So lets get slightly more complicated… Have the first line in video post the animation, but just render frames 0->639. Then have the second line in VP the same thing, but slide the keys over 6 frames, and have the 'live' ones go from 647->800 OF YOUR ANIMATION, but have them in location 640->794 OF THE KEYFRAMER. This should accomplish what I think you want to do. If not, get a little more detailed with your description, and I'll try again. Greg Pyros – Pyros Partnership
