#C= Service Sucks
3 messages in this thread
Has anyone actually spoken to a human being at the C= Express number? All I
get is 'Were sorry all our reps are busy, please try back later, CLICK'. It
really irks me that C= has such poor customer support. I have 'Fool's Gold
Service' until next month when it expires. I would like to contact someone at
C= about getting my screwed up a4000 Buster chip replaced before that time.
The dealers in my area (Washington DC metro area) won't offer any solutions
other than call C=. The other thing that irks me is that C= may only fix my
buster problem (All 4000's sold before May 1993 have it too) if i buy their
rare 4091 scsi board. I don't want/need that hardware at this time but I am
planning on buying hardware in the future that will have Zorro III ability.
Zorro III will not work on my a4000 due to a bug in the Buster Chip that
existed at the time I bought my a4000.
If C= does not fix the crippled computer they sold my last year, this will
absolutely be my last C= product. The Amiga is a fine machine, but C= is
giving it and their customers 3rd rate support.
ps. Did C= lay off their customer support reps? Is that why I only get to talk
to a machine.
mebbe I should invest in a Next computer?
Well if you invest in a Next, you might be worst off than you are now
because the hardware part of the company has closed up shop completely.
But I do understand your problems with CBM service. I've been waiting
since June to get my 4000/4091 problem resolved and my repair center has
been trying to get SMG to send a new 3.1 processor board for some time.
They have also been backordered on 4000 motherboards and other Amiga
parts. So CBM service has really gone down the tubes. Here is a copy of a
letter that I sent to John Steiner of Amazing:
"John:
I'm sending you this with the hope that you might be able to help get a
problem resolved that I've had since I purchased a 4091 SCSI-II
controller, which was delivered the 9th of June. As you probably already
know, early 4000's had to be upgraded with a new motherboard so the
SuperBuster chip could be replaced. About the same time, I learned that
the 3.0 68040 Processor board would need to be replaced with a 3.1
revision before the 4091 would work properly. Well the motherboard and
processor board was replaced on August 12th by a repair center. At that
time, I knew that the 3.1 processor board was suppose to have a revision
-02 PAL for U209 (391472-02). The 3.1 processor board that my repair
center received had the old revision -01 PAL, and the 4000/4091 operation
has been flaky to say the least.
Another processor board was ordered in August, but I have been waiting
since June to get these problems resolved. Whenever I call SMG to inquire
about it, I get the standard "Backordered" reply. Today I called CBM's
customer relations and although the lady I spoke to was sympathetic, she
could only offer her apology, and told be how bad things were at Commodore
right now. I wouldn't be so concerned if it was just me who was having
problems getting their Amiga's repaired, but I'm not. I have seen several
messages up on InterNet, CompuServe, Genie, and various other networks
with similar stories.
So right now, I'm at the end of my rope and have no faith in Commodore
or their products. I had considered purchasing a CD32 but decided against
it considering the poor service I have received so far. And what will
Commodore do about CD32's that fail, just tell customers they are sorry?
At this point, I'm considering a lawsuit against CBM, possibly class
action with other people who are currently having problems getting their
CBM products repaired. But I come to you hoping that you might be able to
print this in Amazing, or get somebody at CBM to take notice. I realize
that CBM has their problems right now, but they have forgotten and ignored
their customers, and we will be ignored no longer."
So there you have it. I'm hoping that some of these letters will start to
be published and CBM will get off their dead As@ to get them corrected. I
suggest you write John at Amazing, and also send a copy to AmigaWorld,
CBM, Video Toaster User, and any other Amiga related magazines. The only
way we will get things turned around is to make CBM take notice.

Commodore Gold Service, has been discontinued, and All service has been
sold off to SMG. I have had several customers complain about how SMG is
handling Gold serive customers with there Voice Hell, answering machine.
If you ever get through to them they are helpfull though.
Good Luck.
