#Cylindrical Mapping
5 messages in this thread
I am currently pulling my hair out trying to map a basketball net on a
cylindrical type object. I was hoping the map would meet at the "seam", but
although it looks like it would if it finished the cylindrical map, it cuts off
a small section right at the seam. I've tried everything to get it to work,
including changing the .CEL size, changing mapping size/position, changing the
opacity map (which is IDENTICAL to the net map .CEL) What is the problem?!?!?
I would appreciate anyone's prompt response so I can finish and be done with
the goals on my BB court! Thanks in advance!

Mark,
Have you checked to make sure that you don't have any excess "material" or
color on the edges of your maps? This might account for the small band.
You might also try mapping with a planar icon-I don't know how much
stretching this might cause, but it might be worth a try. Just some
thoughts. Good luck!

You're not setting the map to tile multiply around the cylinder, are
you? Though the manual only mentions this under the Lofter section,
cylindrical maps which are tiled around the cylinder require the
cylinder mesh to have twice as many sides as the number of map tiles.
1. I've experimented with clipping the map an a variety of sizes
including excess, and no excess material. I'm not exactly clear
about the tile multiply that you are talking about. I actually
started trying to map the bball net I drew in Animator Pro onto a
tube (to have no top or bottom so the "ball" could go through) from
the Create/Tube command in the 3D editor…
Once again, my problem looks like the map is there proportioned
correctly and everything, it is only missing part of my .CEL at the
"seam." If I copy the object, and rotate it to cover the seam, it
looks fine, but I then have 2 objects, and 2X the # of faces! Help!
Maybe I should make my own object like I intended to from the
Shaper/Lofter….
>>I'm not exactly clear about the tile multiply that you are talking about.
I'm talking about Surface/Mapping/Adjust/Tile, which specifies how many times a
map is repeated within the area of the mapping icon each (x & y) directions.
I didn't really think you WERE (and from your last message, you're NOT), but I
just thought I'd throw it out, in case it WAS the problem.
Here are a couple other suggestions:
Are you using separate texture and opacity maps? If so, and somehow they don't
_exactly_ match (ie one got shifted slightly in AAP, or there was a stray pixel
or two when you did the CEL Get), you could have a problem.
Also, (if you already haven't) try using (in AAP) Apply Ink with the Tile ink
selected, and visually make sure the cells seamlessly align.
If the problem isn't in your maps somewhere, I'm stumped!
