#Cylindrical Mapping
7 messages in this thread
well, we FINALLY got the mapping problem solved by simply applying
mapping coordinates when creating the object. Once we did that, our
problems disappeared!!!! Now with all the texture maps in this
scene(s), 16 megs of RAM aren't enough…and memory prices have
skyrocketed! Does anybody know where there be some memory at a
reasonable price?
Some of the memory only suppliers in the SF Bay Area, like CMC, are
selling 4meg simms as low as $146. That's not too bad. Drop me a
line if you need further details. These places have terrabytes'
worth in stock and do red and blue label UPS, so time's not a factor.
I'll have to get with you on some memory, although I believe I'd be
looking for maybe 1 16meg simm at this time…
Mark:
Glad you got it fixed!

I hear ya, man! The first project I did was a courtyard between four
bldgs that we were enclosing. Each "wall" was being covered with
these large acoustical panels, but with windows and varying floor
levels, no two walls were anything alike — I decided to just do the
entire elevation of each wall as one big bitmap (with bumpmaps for
the windows and panel joints). THEN, I read about maps and memory
usage! Yeeouch! It worked, though….
Yeah, tell me about bitmaps and memory! I don't know how many
basketball fans are on here, but I'm current "building" the inside of
"Phog" Allen Fieldhouse of the Unversity of Kansas here in Lawrence,
Kansas, and while it looks great, 3d studio is going nuts on my hard
disk…says I need 11 more megs of RAM to do what it wants, and the
many says to take that number and double it! I feel my wallet
shrinking and becoming lighter…although my wife disagrees…

Boooooo! Hisssssss! I'm afraid I'm a K-State alumn (working in
Wichita)! (I won't even mention the game last weekend<g>).
I know. I've got 40Mb RAM, and I still swap on high-res (2k) stills
(and that was with r2 — now I find that Gary expects _more_ memory
to support _new_features_ and _improved_quality_! Who does he think
he is, doing that without consulting us?<G>).

I have 16megs of 4×9 Simms (53ns) that I'd be willing to sell for $125 per.
