Steve, I just had this discussion over in GraphDev forum. Was it with you? Or with Trevor? Sorry if I don't recall…but there have been many threads there recently on this topic. Let me know, and I'll repost my message here. -GreG

It was with me. I meant to leave you a message this morning thanking you for all the help and giving you an update of what's happened, but l seem to have not sent it (sorry, loooonnng weekend). Unfortunatly, nothing seems to work. If I try the way you suggested (hardstripe text. on a ball) , I lose the position of the texture axis in one state or the other once I move to the stage. If I try to morph one object to another (same object, same texture, different axis position,) I get a "pop morph" ie no morph at all. I think that this is a Amiga version prob. Also, I still need to know how to go about getting the Amiga version of Sepia global FX. Any help would be appreciated. Steve

I think that this is a Amiga version prob. << Odd, I've been able to morph the texture axis using seperate objects in 3.0, and now with states using 3.1. However, I am running on a PC. Just to make sure, we are talking about morphing the position of the texture axis, and not the object's axis that the texture axis is tied to, right? Question that just popped into my head, are you adjusting the texture axis and saving the states in the Detail editor? Or are you adjusting the position of the texture axis from within the stage editor, using the stage attributes? As for the Cepia.ifx, you'll have to get that updated from Impulse. -GreG

I'd love to get the cepia fix from Impulse, they won't reply. Re the texture axis prob: Here's a step by step of what I'm doing. Start in detail editor. #1. My object is the word "PLAID" (Font object extruded and faces added thru slice). #2. Make edges sharp. #3. Add plaid.itx #4. Color obj. (either red or yellow…I don't remember…whichever the texture does NOT have as a default) #5. Add Linear.itx. Change all guns to 0 except for transparency where all guns are 255. and modify z trans. legnth to 20% of object's legnth. #6. Modify texture axis. Rotate so that "Z" on the texture's axis points toward the "D" in the word plaid and move axis a little to the left of the "P" in plaid. #7. Exit atts. and test render. Screen should be empty (PLAID should be transparent). #8. Create state "DEFAULT" Check textures/brushes box. #9. Go to the attributes. Go to Linear.itx. Edit axis. Move axis (don't rotate) so that the axis is a little to the right of the "D" in plaid. Leave atts. #10. Test render. You should see the word "PLAID" #11. Create state "PLAID" Check textures/brushes box. #12. Save object as PLAID.IOB #13. In detail editor: use the Set To option in states to check both states. In each, (Default and Plaid) the linear.itx axis should be in the right place. #14. Go to stage. Set object, light etc. Check obj's Default state. Go to the attributes option in stage. At least in the Amiga version, you'll find that linear.itx is (In the DEFAULT state) on the right of the object. If you go back to the detail editor, start again and do it the other way (create state PLAID first and state DEFAULT second) State Plaid's linear.itx axis will be set to the left of the obj. #15. To double check that it's not the stage attributes section that's screwed up, go to action editor. Create 10 frame anim. Frame one: Set obj Plaid to state Default, Frame 2-10, set obj. Plaid to state Plaid. #16. Render. What should happen is that the object should be invisible to start with and slowly fade in as the axis moves across the obj. (Credit where credit is due dept.: I got this from an article Steve Worley wrote years ago) Thanks for the continued help, Steve

Steve, I tried your example, and lo and behold, the texture axis for linear did not keep it's diferent positions. Once the object is saved, the information is lost. No need to even go into the stage, just reload the object and you'll see that the texture axis info for one of the states was not retained. I have an object that does not have this problem, and who'se texture axis is maintained throughout the 2 states. I tried all I could to get the PLAID example to work. Then it dawned on me, that the object I have that works, only has one texture. I removed the Plaid.itx, leaving only linear.itx, and the texture axis now maintains it's position. You can re-order your textures so that plaid is number 2 in priority, leaving linear in the first spot. Apparently right now there is a bug where only the first texture's axis info is retained. Thanks for sticking this one out with me, otherwise I couldn't have found this bug. I'll let Impulse know first thing tomorrow. -GreG

Ah-HA! T*H*A*N*K Y*O*U!!! This has been driving me nuts for at least two weeks. I really appreciate all the help. 🙂 By the way, when you talk to Impulse, if you could find out about the cepia.fx for the Amiga (I get melt when I load cepia) I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Steve

Steve, It drove me nuts for an hour or so before I realized what was happening. While you create the states in the detail editor, they behave properly. When the object is reloaded only the first texture's axis positions are intact. So, either the problem lies in saving the info, or when reloading it. -GreG

GreG, I have the same Cepia/Melt problem (although thay are different file sizes…i checked). I you could pass this to Impulse…..Thanks! John
