#Mouse problems

HELP!!!! I have a problem with the mouse pointer on my A2000. I am running OS
2.1, have a VXL-30 accell, and a HD on an IVS Grandslam board. Today when I
turned on the computer, the mouse pointer went nuts. I can sort of control it
left-to-right, but it bounces erratically between the top and bottom of the
screen. The mouse is fairly new, and I have never had this problem before. I
cleaned the mouse, checked the connections for bent/broken pins, and rebooted
the computer using several different disks, inculding my original WB. The
problem persists. Any ideas out there? Is the mouse controlled by a chip or
something that may be bad?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks…….

Remove the ball from the mouse, try to see if the mouse pointer will
work properly if you move the rollers by hand. If so, then they are still
dirty. If not…I'd suspect the mouse itself.

Thanks for the advice, but I did take the mouse apart; try to move the rollers
by hand and then I cleaned it. The problem persists. I even used the
L-Amiga+cursor key combination to try to move the pointer. Even that way, the
problem persists, so I don't think it's the mouse. I am willing to try
replacing the CIA chips. Does anyone out there have any for sale? Or does
anyone out there have any other ideas?

It could be one of the 8520 CIA chips. These are cheap (around $10), but
can be a bit of work to change, depending on your hardware inclinations.
Any half-way decent Amiga repair shop can replace them. The back of Amiga
World has several sources for these, plus some mail-order repair shops.
