This is a fishing expedition … We have watched this section of the forum sit relatively quietly over the last couple of months… (our first exposure to Cserve) and wonder if there are other CDK users out there who can see this? Are there others who are mildly interested in the CDK out there? What is the general opinion of the CDK from you Multimedia-ites out there? Do you have any opinion? We have noted the realtime rendering code dropped in the MM Developers library last month (?) that runs inside 3D Studio. Very nice to see. We would like to hear from anyone using it and interested in such things. We are developers using CDK and just beginning to do more IPAS work lately. Please let us hear all pros and cons from you experienced forum vets on what the state of CDK is in the Autodesk developer and user world. Thanks! Millard & Angela Pate

Hey gang- I'm really interested in the CDK too. Is anyone using it? How is the performance? We'd really like to see a demo before buying it. Are you listening, Autodesk? Mike

Hey Millard, I was just reading all the discussions in Navplayer. Are you located in Gainsville, Fla. ? If so I have been in touch with Keith and stopped by to see you guys at Siggraph. I have had a couple of requests to provide Virtual type worlds that can be "navigated" in real time. Immersion is not a real issue with these people. They simply want to set up a computer at a sales office of say a new housing/golf community and prospective buyers have the ability to walk around the project. I realize the geometry would have to broken down into "mini worlds" but overall it sounds like this may be acheivable with the NAVflyer. I am both an ACAD and 3DS user in Largo. Fla. (near Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater) and very interested in seeing this product. About six months ago I told the inquiring parties that we were about a year away from bringing this technology to them and would love to call them back and update them on the subject. In order for me to this I will need some particulars such as optimum systems, frames per second the Navflyer would produce, resolution, etc.. Additionally it is my understanding that the NAVflyer will run on 3DS files, is this correct? Will I need have CDK? Is the NAVflyer a "player" of sorts? All information on the subject will be most appreciated. Jeff Reisner, CADESIGN 12816 129th Ave. North Largo, Florida 34644 (813) 595-7263

Thanks for the reply, Yes we are in Gainesville, Fl. and Keith is here… You spoke to him about the NAVPlayer, no doubt, which we showed at Siggraph. However, it is not the same thing as this NAVFlyer shareware subject that we were discussing here in the CDK forum. Let me clarify. The full featured product that we have marketed for about the past year is called the Virtual Environment NAVIGATOR. We are currently shipping Rel. 1.01. Release 2.0 is much improved and has a new capability (after many user requests) to create a file format called a world file. It has an extension of .WLD. If you are working (or playing) in your own world called CASTLE, for example, you can make an output file called CASTLE.WLD. The NAVPlayer program, which will ship with Rel 2.0 as well as be posted for free here and on other nets, will be able to play the Castle.WLD file and have FULL functionality of the complete NAVIGATOR program (scripts of actions, hand tools or wands, in-environment hypertext, etc.) for that world only. NAVPlayer will only input .WLD files, and has no output capability. It is like AAplay for flic files, only for 3D worlds with ongoing scenarios. We are very excited about it, but it has taken longer than anticipated to get out (ain't it always so). Look for it before the end of the year. For your needs, if all that is necessary is to fly around the models, the NAVFlyer program should work fine as it will fly DXF files. If you want things to be happening in the world, or have specific information, images or flics associated with items in the world, then you will need the full NAVIGATOR for your customer or you could create a .WLD file using NAVIGATOR yourself and just give them NAVPlayer and your .WLD file. Its all just a lot of talk until we get this shareware flyer posted here for everyone to begin experimenting with. The current state is really close. T We are documenting it now with display considerations, operating instructions, a known bug list and anything else we can think of that you might need. It should be up here within the next few days in a BETA version at least for the Autodesk community to begin exploring and help us to improve. Thanks for the interest! Angela & Millard Pate
