#Inverse Kinematics

When is Release 4.0 due out….
Or is it already out….
With your inverse kinematics , how did you guys end up doing the
enveloping (that is the assigning points to ik joints.)
I use Softimage at work, and I was wondering if you guys did anything
similar. Like being able to assign weights to individual points.
Or is it more similar to Wavefront Kinemation, they seem to have the
best technique for this type of thing..

The only way to integrate skinning and IK in 3DSr4 is to build an underlying IK
skeleton, underneath a set of cross-sections that are skinned by the Skin IPAS
process. This is very different from the SI enveloping method that you
referenced.
There's a section in the new "3D Studio Special Effects" book from New Riders
about how to develop the skin and underlying skeleton. The IK docs cover how to
apply IK to the skeleton.

GARY.
Is the book out yet or soon to be published?
Rick
Yup. It's now shipping. Kevin (from NRP) just made an announcement about it
here on the forum earlier this week.
