Static morphing

Friend of mine is doing a project. Has a row of columns along the street. The column row is like stills from a morph… AAAAAA AbAbAb aBaBaB BBBBB If you get my drift. I have been unable to help him make this happen. I think think of some ideas have to do with creating start and finish objects and doing morphs in the keyframer of different durations and then using frame n for rendering. But this wouldn't work if he wanted to do animations. And, of course, it would be nice to just have the model correct, not weird. Also it would facilitate DXF out to CAD packages. Can anybody help? It strikes me that there might be an IPAS that will create actual model from morphs. Thank you – gruhn

I do not fully understand your problem, but I can say that the tutorials provided with 3DS do a good job of explaining morphing. Check here first, then ask more questions if you have any. — James — MAP —

>>morphing columns I think you might want to use the Snapshot command. See the reference manual for details (look in the index). Michele

>>I think you might want to use the Snapshot command<< I'm still using R1. I don't recall a Snapshot command, but it sounds like that might do the job for him. Thanks, I'll tell him to look. – gruhn

The "snapshot" feature appeared in R3, I believe. It might be R2, but I know for sure it's not in R1.

>>The "snapshot" feature appeared in R3, I believe.<< The guy I'm talking to has access to I know not what version. Maybe R2. Maybe more. Dunno. Just by my problem and the feature's name, I'm guessing that it is in the Keyframer and that it creates a 3DS off of the way the model looks in frame whatever I'm at when I press SNAPSHOT. If this is so, it will solve his problem. Thank you. All I have to do is get him to understand it remotely.
