I have tried creating a blurring effect with an exploding object using both object motion blur, and scene motion blur in VP. I was unsuccessfull on both accounts. Could I be doing somthing wrong, or do these two effects not work with the explode IPAS. Thanks Dave P.S If they don't work, any suggestions on how I might get a blur effect on the exploding object?

Hi David, << Could I be doing somthing wrong, or do these two effects not work with the explode IPAS. >> I'm trying to dig up a relevant thread regarding AXP's and motion blur for ya…hang on..

From a June thread regarding flame/vapor and scene/object motion blur… …. I find that in most cases Scene Motion Blur will work with the new versions, but it's impossible to make AXP's work with Object Motion Blur. – G

Thanks, for the confirmation on Object motion blur. When I tried Scene motion blur setting on 3 it ran thru the video post rendering 3 times, each time doing the procedural processing for the axp, but then my image was black. NO image. I'm not rendering a black hole, so I'm thinking somthings wrong. Any suggestions?

David, >> Any suggestions? << I have a workaround for this limitation – it worked nicely for me. I'll give you some pointers but don't have time to describe it in full. I call it my pseudo motion blur: 1) render your explosion with no object or scene motion blur, but alpha on. Save as 32-bit images. 2) make an .ifl of the sequence of the rendered .tgas 3) use video post to composite several layers of the explosion, each layer is staggered in time by 1 frame. In the "alpha" column use queue alpha channel. In the "trans" column use different grayscale images (try luma 64, luma 96, luma 128) to give a transparent/blurry quality to each layer. Experiment. If you have a PAR it'll make this a whole lot easier. Gosh, here I go again give away all my secrets for nothing – what a fool <g>. Martin

Martin Thanks alot! My next step was to do the same thing in photoshop, with a batch program, but an ILF will work just as nice. Dave

David, >> Thanks alot! …. an ILF will work just as nice. << Glad to help. Make sure it's an ".ifl", not and "ILF" <g>.

Martin's suggestion is probably your best bet, since AXP objects don't work with motion blur. That'll eventually be corrected, but until then, Martin's technique is an excellent workaround. – G
